[Chase] General question about moving credit line

I have 4 chase cards (CSP, Mileage Plus, Marriot Rewards, and Freedom). Although they all carry a balance, I was wondering if the card has to have a zero balance before moving the line of credit.

I don't think I will need the Marriot or CSP so there goes $190 worth of annual fees, but am planning to move those lines to a CSR.

I applied for it but they told me they can't extend any more credit. So is it possible to move those 2 mentioned lines to get the CSR? Even with a balance?

Also, if I do that, will I or will I not qualify for the 100k points?

Thanks! I hope this made sense

Re: [Chase] General question about moving credit line

I think in terms of moving, as long as the limit doesn't pass the balance, it's allowed.

I have done so by closing my csp and moving the entire limit - 500 to my freedom unlimited. Another personal data point is today, I moved 6k from my csr to my freedom unlimited. Both had balances but they were able to do so.

I did some research and some users have been asked to do hardpulls with limit transfers.

For you, you should be able to move some credit lines around to get a csr but I believe the limit must = to at least 10000 to maintain the visa infinite minimum. I do not think you'll get the bonus though.

Maybe if you apply for the card, they told you they can't give you more credit, and you ask them to use limit from other cards, you qualify for the bonus. Because you are opening a new card.

If you PC the CSP to CSR you will not get the welcome bonus. Good luck.

Re: [Chase] General question about moving credit line

I can confirm it does not have to have a $0 balance to move credit limits around with Chase, but as stated you must leave at least as much on a card as to cover any balance on it and/or the minimum allowed for that card (Explorer is $500, but some require more). That is, the balances do not move so you can only move unused credit lines around.
