Re: Chase Marriott - Point worth?

The worth varies. There is no set amount for stays, as hotel prices vary and there is no real seasonal point cost with Marriott. Ideally you want to look for getting a value over 1 cent per point, but other times you just want to use points for what you want to use em for.

I'd highly suggest not redeeming for gift cards.

Re: Chase Marriott - Point worth?

For my usage of Marriott points I average between 1.3 and 1.4 cents per point. I usually redeem them at cat1 or cat2 properties. That is the best value for me. If I can't get at least 1 cent per point I will usually just charge it and save my points for another day.

Re: Chase Marriott - Point worth?

I find my Marriott points to be worth a lot more now that I have Ritz and am automatically GOLD... I get upgrades if available, free water, free high-speed internet, free breakfast in almost all hotels, free local calls.

Upgrades, water, and breakfast can quickly turn a 1% value well over 2% based on cash savings!!

Re: Chase Marriott - Point worth?

My paid Marriott stays for 2015. Prices are per night and include tax:

$219 for a Cat 7 (would cost 35k points) AAA rate

$232 for a Cat 8 (would cost 40k points)

$196 for a Cat 9 (would cost 45k points) AAA rate

$180 for a Cat 9 (would cost 45k points)

If I had tried to book those as reward stays, my cpp value would have been a lot lower than others get.

ETA: I think I'm currently Silver...definitely not Gold or Platinum. Status could improve the cpp value a lot at some properties. I haven't booked any award nights yet with my points.

Re: Chase Marriott - Point worth?

Marriott points are certainly not the MOST valuable hotel currency, but I earn (with my gold status and ritz card) 18 points per dollar spent with marriott, so they add up quick.

That is a pretty good value at almost 1.4 cents per point. Is that $620 just the room rate, or is that the cost per night including tax? One thing often overlooked when calculating redemption values is that you also are saving on the tax. Tax on a $600 hotel room is pretty substantial.

I will, though, suggest you also look into the essex house for your stay. It's pretty fantastic, same category as the marquis times square, but (in my opinion) in a much better location.

It's a nice place, to be sure, but that was my $180/night Cat 9 property...the points are valuable when room availability is low and cash prices are high. In times of low demand, the value can fall a lot.

ETA: I did get the most basic room for $180 (though the basic room there is still pretty quiet and spacious).

Don't know how you would redeem for Gift cards in the first place. They are marriot points. But a cheap stay at say. Fairfield or town place wuites is only about 8-10k points a night. So that gives you an idea of the Value. Expensive marriot. 25-35k a night. Keep in mind these points are only for catagory 1-5.
