Chase Not Allowing Product Changes?

Hello -

I have a Chase Sapphire Preferred card - got it when they were having the $250 dollar promotion ages ago and didn't care enough to bother with the Annual Fee. So the fee is coming around again and I didn't feel like being dinged for it this time and called up to see if I could get a Product Change to the regular Sapphire. CSR said "Your account isn't eligible for a PC".

So I'm like, "uh ok"

I went to a branch today to ask if I could product change to a Sapphire or another card just to see what they would said and the guy said I had to pay my balance in full and reapply for the card I want.

So I'm like "uh ok"

I've product changed with other cards just fine before, Chase seems to be a pain right now.

CASE IN POINT:

Anyone PC their Chase cards recently? To and from what? What CL's?

My util on the card is 2k of 3k.

Re: Chase Not Allowing Product Changes?

Some months ago, I tried to PC my Freedom Visa to a Continental One Pass MC. No dice! Chase told me the same thing they told you. I'm not sure if they decided to stop all PC's. Others might know more about this.

Re: Chase Not Allowing Product Changes?

They still allow changes but not on all cards and then only to certain cards. I just called on my Freedom Plus and could change to Freedom, Sapphire or Slate. I don't want to switch at this point but wanted to know what was available if they discontinue the Freedom Plus program on me.

Re: Chase Not Allowing Product Changes?

I carried the World Freedom MC for 5 years and ask for a change to the regular Freedom Card so the limit would show, 7 days later, New Freedom card arrived , same account # limit $50,500. I called the backdoor number , limit now shows on all three

I switched from a Slate to a Freedom card today.  No problem at all.

Re: Chase Not Allowing Product Changes?

I have a Chase United Mileage Plus card, and it doesn't show its credit limit on my credit reports. Do you think I would be eligible for any kind of product change to any other Chase card that would show its credit limit? And is there a direct number I can call to a department that can help me with PC's? My card has a $0 balance card with a $4,700 CL, and I don't use it because I have no use for airline rewards, so I'm stuck with a card that has my highest CL and I can't even use it for much of anything.

Re: Chase Not Allowing Product Changes?

You are not alone.  This is how Chase operates.  I'm slowly canceling everything with Chase since I don't carryover balances and so it doesn't affect my score.  They would not shift tradeline limits or allow PC's so I canceled almost $40K in tradelines and am going elsewhere.  I'm down to one card now and will keep it until the AF comes up (100k bonus miles on British Airways) and will then cancel.  There are many other places to do business and Chase will NOT be one of them unless hell freezes over.  Not to mention, they want to do a hard pull on every move you make despite over 15 yrs working with them with mortgage and savings.
