Chase Recon Fail - 2 different Issues

Hey all,

So I used the backdoor number to call Chase, I called a total of 4 times, twice for each issue, and failed everytime. I used the "Credit Analyst - recon" number for Chase listed here http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Cards/Backdoor-Numbers/m-p/408066/highlight/true#M136936 for all 4 calls.

Issue 1: Chase Sapphire Preferred Credit Limit Increase

My CSP was approved instantly with $5,000, which is sort of low. I wanted it to be a little higher so I could charge vacations on it and get double points, but no go. I called and told them $5,000 was just too low and the guy sent me to customer service for a credit limit increase. She said they would have to do another hard pull and process it as a CLI, I asked if it could just be renegotiated based on the info they pulled last night to approve the card, she said no. Called number again, new people, same result.

Issue 2: Upgrade Slate to Freedom

I called to upgrade my Slate to Freedom. Person said I should be eligible, sent me to the right office, they said I was not. He was rude, kept saying my "type" of slate was simply not eligible. Called again, they said I should be able to and transferred me again to a much nicer lady, who didn't know why it wouldn't let her. She sent me to a senior analyst who said my type of Slate was different because it itself was an upgrade (formerly a Starbucks card, they automatically made it a Slate a year or so ago) and that they weren't eligible for PC.

So...what am I doing wrong? Issue 2 I probably can't fix, but issue 1 is odd, everyone else on here talks about talking to someone who will just up it right there if you talk to them about it, and the people I talk to are so mechanical and rigid, they just say it has to be a CLI request with a hard pull. Advice??

Also - is it worth it to simply apply for the Chase Freedom and take the hit of the hard inquiry? He said it was fine even though I just got the Sapphire, but I don't know if it's worth the inquiry though it would give me the Chase checking + Freedom + CSP combo...ideas?

Chase pulls hard for just talking to you.

I am not big fan of Chase and their credit cards, so IMHO it is not worth applying to Freedom.

Re: Chase Recon Fail - 2 different Issues

You're not doing anything wrong.

Chase is very adamant about keeping whatever limit you were given unless you want to take a hit.

Don't get me wrong, I love their products, but I hate their rigidness.

Re: Chase Recon Fail - 2 different Issues

I had a similiar experience to yours last year when I tried to get an increase on one of my Freedom cards.  After being transfered around I finally spoke with a nice analyst who also was rigid and would not budge.  At that time, I had the card for almost 3 years with good usage and PIF'd every month!!  And to this day, after 4 years of business with Chase, I have NEVER received a CLI from them.  The only reason why I keep and use the cards is because the Ultimate Rewards program is one of the best around and I've done pretty well with it.

Re: Chase Recon Fail - 2 different Issues

Frankly Chase has been more of a pain in the arse than American Express has been.

Ive shut down 2 Chase accounts because of their rudeness and refusal to increase credit limit even with my credit rating being well into the excellent range.

After we shut down the two cards we applied for different ones and the wife got a higher limit than I did, which is confusing, given that my score is higher than hers.

We both ended up with higher limits than we had before on the old chase cards.

Re: Chase Recon Fail - 2 different Issues

Hey to all,

I started with a Chase Freedom Card, low initial limit, $ 1000.00. I was happy to get the card. I went over the limit a month after having the card, (needed new box spring/mattress)  and called them as I did not want to pay over the limit fees, etc. They asked permission for a hard pull. I said yes, ( I did not want to but,). They asked what limit I would like and I kinda shot for the moon. The rep said well, Here is what I see (re your credit report): All bills paid in full, you are making additional principal house payments, all bills paid on time for over x months since your challenges. I replied, correct, was put on hold two minutes, the rep returned. He said: request granted effective NOW!. Thanks for choosing Chase and enjoy your new cli with its FREEDOM. The increase was up to $10000.00.  One year aniversary this June and I am looking for an auto increase. Yes, Chase has been very good to me. In my portfolio are: Amex Gold, Chase Freedom, Credit Union Visa, Discover Rewards Cash Back, and Cap One MC $750.00 limit.I have been in the garden since November last year.

Re: Chase Recon Fail - 2 different Issues

$5,000 is just not adequate? If you need more, then just PIF whenever you charge anything so the credit is always there.

Re: Chase Recon Fail - 2 different Issues

Your CSP is likely a Visa Signature/World MasterCard thus you can exceed your revolving limit, the amount depends upon many factors but I would guess at least $1500 over. Any amount that exceeds your access line will be due in full by next month. Keep that in mind.
