Chase Ritz Carlton

Couple of questions about this card to ask. Is it under the 5/24 rule? I have the marriott rewards card and I want to maybe switch my points and little balance I cary over to the ritz carlton card. Is that possible. And it the 450 annual fee actually worth it?

I dont want to pay the 85 marriott fee if I can switch my points over to another card.

Re: Chase Ritz Carlton

First, this card is NOT under the 5/24. I was approved despite being way over 5/24.

Second, you can combine your Marriott points with the Ritz points. However, I do not believe that you can transfer your actual statement balance from one Chase card (Marriott) to another Chase card (Ritz). Close the Marriott card, get the annual fee refunded, and pay off the balance.

Third, I think that the AF may be worth it, but it depends. I've had this card less than a year and received $600 in "air travel credits". These credits are much more restrictive than the CSR, but still much better than Amex. They cannot be used for airline giftcards, etc. I used mine for a transpacific upgrade, bag fees, in flight food, drinks, etc. If you fly a lot and do not have elite status you will get value out of this. Priority Pass is hit or miss, depending on wwhat airports you use. The $100 discount on two domestic roundtrip flights is a great perk. One nice perk is that AUs are free (and also get a PP membership). Overall, I think that this card may be worth it but really depends on your sitatution.

I got a great value out of the three free nights (now two nights). Almost $2k in value for a quick weekend trip to Maui. Not a bad way to use the nights. YMMV.

One other point. I do not recommend using this card for daily purchases. Better off using a UR earning card.

It is not under the 5/24 rule that I can tell you since I was just approved at 10+/24.

Re: Chase Ritz Carlton

If you're gonna stay at their hotels.....otherwise you're better off with CSR (if you dont have it) for the same AF. That being said, it is that "cool baller card" if image matters for anything.

edit: and also if you're eligible under 5/24 for the CSR.

Re: Chase Ritz Carlton

I was approved for this card last year and can confirm that it does not fall under the 5/24 rule.  At the ime I was approved I was at approximately 19/24 (Crazy I know... )

The $450 annual fee is definitely more than worth it (at least for the first year).  The bonus offer I ended up with included 3 complimentary nights which I used at the Ritz in Aruba in January 2017.  The value of the upgraded room we ended up with was approx $3k for the 4days/3nights we were there.  We also received the $100 hotel credit on our final bill even though we did not pay for the stay.  This credit did help offset one of the days we ordered room service for breakfast.

On top of this the other benefits are awesome:

- $100 Global Entry application credit,

-$100 credit on airfare booked through the visadiscount portal on 2-5 roundtrip tickets

- $300 travel credit each year

-Priority Pass lounge access (which is MUCH better than what is offered by AMEX because there does not appear to be a limit on the number guests you can bring in for free)

-Trip delay/cancellation and baggage insurance and this benefit covers your extended famly as well as long as you use the card to pay at least part of the airfare.

- Hilton and SPG Gold status.  With the Marriott/Starwoods merger this perk is important because now you don't have to spend the $10k to keep your Ritz Gold member status.  You should get it automatically since you will receive status match across all three programs Ritz/Marriott/SPG

As the OP mentioned, I also would not recommend this as an everyday driver but the perks (at least for me) make the $450 more than worth it.  Hope this helps. Smiley Happy

Just applied and got approved for 12K. 20.49Apr. Not to shabby. I'm now going to transfer the balance I have on my Marriott card to my chase freedom! Is that possible?
