That would suck to have your card declined because Chase thought it to be suspicious when it wasnt. I'd be embarrassed

I actually prefer issuer to take the time to doubt my purchases rather than being lax torward it.

My closed BofA Travel Rewards once had a fraud alert that caused it to be declined at gas pump and store register. No biggie, simply used another card. When I got home I logged into my account and BofA wanted to confirm some recent charges I made. Simply confirmed and my account was back to normal.

Re: Chase Sapphire Credit Fraud Alert

Funny I just had a run in fraud incident with met CSP as well. I had to go to a branch with my ID to have the hold lifted.

Must has something to do with the Home Depot data breach.

You're right, the process is much simpler that way then having to go through the whole fraud thing when someone actually does steal your card info

Re: Chase Sapphire Credit Fraud Alert

Fraud alerts are great, until they're not.

Take this scenario.  Let's say you were preordering an iPhone 6 (or, new Samsung) to have for launch day, and your CC declines the charge issuing you a fraud alert.  You would have log in again, make the purchase a second time, and hope it doesn't take too long to miss securing the product for launch date.

From my perspective, since I'm not liable for fraud, I'd rather have to risk dealing with a fraudulent charge than to risk missing time sensitive purchases.

PS - Anyone really think overly sensitive fraud purchase algorithms are to protect the consumer?  If you do, then you must also buy that scatalogical bovine about checking your ID, which has your address and b'day, before a purchase is also to protect you.

Re: Chase Sapphire Credit Fraud Alert

My first fraud protection contact from Chase was when I first used my CSP, which was in a McDonald's for a $10 lunch...lol. I used my BCE when the CSP was declined, but I called in and Chase explained that often people who steal cards use fastfood places as a "test" of sorts before going for the big money.

Re: Chase Sapphire Credit Fraud Alert

I agree Chase as excellent fraud alerts.

My one and only fraud alert was on my Freedom card. It was a bit annoying having to answer questions to verify my identity when I called in after getting the email, they were very quick about sending a replacement card.

It's funny yours was at Walgreen's because that's where mine was declined, The reason for denial was they didn't have the 3 digit code on the back (that's stored in the strip I believe) of the card.

In my case it was a day after I used it at a gas pump and my theory was someone put a card reader in it..

Yes, there are several test places, but I've heard even more common is urban self-serve gas stations at night.   Not interacting with anyone, and it if gets declined, just drive away (preferably in your stolen car).

Capital One use to initially decline my attempts to reload a prepaid SIM on a UK website.  Apparently, reloads are a way of testing stolen cards there.

Definitely wasn't Discover, they have terrible security protection. At least with my experience with them.

They Blocked a $300 transaction at Rite Aid when I bought a $300 Amazon Gift card because my CL was so low lol. This was when I had Discover for like 3 months and never put on a big purchase before. After I called them they allowed it to go through

Interesting. I always make sure to set travel notifications when I fly so I won't get declined

Re: Chase Sapphire Credit Fraud Alert

This is awesome as are many posts in this thread. I think discover only offers frog protection if I'm not mistaken'.
