Both card have very similar benefits, but chase win out by metal card and great customer service,

Well, to some the benefits are very different, in that CSP allows transfer to partner programs, which is very important for say international premium cabin flights, whereas Arrival is a cash-back card (with enhanced rewards when redeemed for travel).

Re: Chase Sapphire Preferred annual fee

i myself isn't a huge spender to be able to rack up massive points annually. my annual spend probably barely justifies the CSP's AF. heck, i will barely make the required spend for the signup bonus (will meet it though). but i've decided that i will keep the card because even though im not a big spender, DW and i do like taking the kids to eat out several times a week and take them on mini-holidays throughout the year. and every couple of years, we usually fly out of the country to visit her family. and i my CSP will be my go to card for all of these. of course will adjust the use of cc depending on what needs to be purchased (airline cc for airfare, etc). so even though i can't charge huge sums of money on the card the earn a gazillion points each year, in my head, im thinking i will benefit from it in the long run from what i'm going to use the card for.

Based on what you guys are suggesting, I'm leaning towards downgrading to regular Sapphire. Is it possible that I change it to another chase's card with no annual fee like the amazon card or something. Just wondering.

But before losing my CSP, I want to book a trip to Hawaii with my points yoohoo. I have about 71k from CSP and CF and transfer the rest to Southwest cause I has a better value per point 1.66x for wanna get away fares (1.42x after March).

Regarding the CL. Right now, I have a really high combined CL (compared to my salary and spendings) and my normal utilization is always < 10%. Does keep the CL make sense for me? Does having a high *combined* CL hurt my chances of getting new cards? Do I need to ask the lenders to lower my CL at some point.

ps. I'm not looking for credit and I only care about the rewards.

you will have to call chase and they'll tell you whether it's possible to PC to the amazon card.

yes, redeem your points before you do any PC.

Might as well keep the CL. It may hurt your chances of getting new cards because some lenders may think you have sufficient credit as it is, but just keep it for now. If a lender ever does tell you that, then offer to close or lower your CL on cards that you do not need most.

if you don't spend a lot, there are many other cards that will benefit you more, in both the short and long term.

there's really no point in accumulating points over several years. devaluations happen every 2-4 years. therefore with a small spending, and constant devaluations going on, you may never have enough points for that "dream" vacation.

What do you guys suggest?

I was in your situation about a week ago...I actually opened up my CSP the same time as you.  I actually ended up closing my account but not before transferring my limit over to my Chase Freedom and Chase Slate cards.  I didn't use the card that much to warrant keeping it and paying the $95 annual fee.  I really wanted to keep a MasterCard with Chase so I tried to convert to a Chase Freedom (MasterCard) but they didn't budge because #1) I already have a Chase Freedom card (they don't allow multiple like-products), and #2) they are pretty much ending their relationship with MasterCard so no more cards will be issued out as MasterCard.  The only thing I could convert to was the regular Sapphire but they would have issued it as Visa.  In the end, I thought closing the account and transferring the credit line over to my other two accounts would be more worth it.

And, like many others have said...no, they are not able to waive the annual fee.  I already checked into that.

Some wrong info, I have two Freedom cards Mastercard(world elite) and a Visa(signature).

They might have allowed it at one point...but when I tried to PC before closing my CSP, I was told that I couldn't have multiples of the same product.  BTW, I didn't realize Chase offered the Freedom in a World Elite MC...I knew they offered it in a World MC

Hopefully we use the points in time before the next devaluation. Wife wants to take a family trip either to Australia or Philippines sometime next year. With the CSP, i plan on keeping it at that level for two years. Dont mind paying the first AF hit. Believe it or not...thats how long i allow myself to see if a cc is worth it for me to keep or not. In the past ive just close it down. i never knew one could downgrade his cc until becoming a member here. With that said...if after using whatever points we accumulate for our planned major trip i dont see it working for me anymore, i will pc to the no AF version.

But can you tell me what cards you think may work for me?

If you don't intend to transfer the points to get say premium cabin international flights or very expensive hotel stays (which require a lot of points and thus a lot of spend) UR points are worth at most 1.25 (when you redeem for travel at the UR mall) c per point.  So you get, with the 7% bonus, about 1.34 cents per $ spent on general stuff, and 2.68 cents on dining and travel, using CSP.

With something like Arrival with AF (but a little lower AF than CSP) you would be earning 2.2cents on ALL purchases, which is likely going to be more unless a lot of your budget is travel and dining..
