Re: Chase Slate - So mad at myself!!!

fyi - i had applied for a balance transfer and was able to pay it off within a month. I called, and they let me produt change to freedom unlimited without issue. I wouldn't get the sign on bonus, of course, but at least the card would be useful. You may not have to wait a year.

Same here. I was able to PC,my Slate to the Freedom Unlimited within 60 days of being approved for the card.

Re: Chase Slate - So mad at myself!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your impromptu credit app, but hey, it could have been worse! At least you got approved and a CLI (small CLI is better than no CLI) - is my optimism showing?! Lol

Like the others have said though, you don't have to wait a whole year to PC to a "useful" card. I thought that you had to also because I read that somewhere. I got my slate in June and paid off my BT in October... I was so pissed I was going to have to wait another 8 months to PC it to a useful card.

I got impatient in January, so I thought I'd just call them and give it a try. I recently got a Cap1 QS, so I didn't want the Chase FU (already get 1.5% back), so I asked to PC to the Chase Freedom to get the 5% rotating category. To my surprise, she let me PC, but for some reason you can't PC from a Slate to a Freedom, so I had to PC to the Freedom unlimited, then PC that to the Freedom.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck to you and congrats on the approval!
Cheers!

I don't really understand at all why anyone would apply for a Slate without anything to BT....

It's called "drunk apping!"

Re: Chase Slate - So mad at myself!!!

I have product changed twice since getting my slate nearly a year ago. First to freedom unlimited and then to the freedom.

It's been 17 days and I still want to slap myself silly. Impulsiveness is not good. Just because I got 3 green checkmarks for Chase "pre-selected offers," I took the plunge and hit submit for the Slate -- instantly approved for $2K. Was annoyed so called for a higher limit. Yep, CSR informed me another HP would occur. I said ok and only got a $500 bump. Waaaaaaaaaa. If I had taken a few minutes and done diligent research, I would have applied for the Freedom to get the $150 bonus for $500 spend. I have nothing to BT, so the Slate is really useless to me, except for padding. I can't even PC it for 1 year.

So this impulsive applying for a card I really don't want cost me 3 HPs and a 10-point score drop!!! I definite will stay in the garden this time and only do SP CLIs.

But, it was a lesson-learned. DON'T APPLY FOR CARDS JUST TO BE APPLYING!!! So yeah, even after ranting here, I still want to slap myself. Hard! Just SMH in disbelief.

Not syaing that you do this, but I have learned to put my computer away after a couple of cocktails....I in the past have made some really impulsive decisions too...Smiley Wink

Not looking to start trouble here but I think it depends on what sort of drinks we are talking about.  Speaking from vast experience here I can safely say I have had some of my best credit related work while drinking.  I think either bourbon or casamigos tequila – yeah, the one george clooney co-owes make stellar choices to app or cli with.  whisky cola, know better as jack & coke can also not be overlooked…I did a $63K penfed 0 down loan for an M2 with a j&c by my side, not sure I could have done the deal without it.   Wine wise I am thinking traditional rioja, nothing fruit forward.  For denials I would go big or go home, barolo or burgundy from the beaune area.  For recons I would do either margs or something fresh from the loire area.  As a general food to pair with I highly recommend http://www.boursin.com/en_us/Products/Boursin-R-Cheese/Garlic-Fine-Herbs with whatever cracker works for you – trust me, once you get started on this stuff it’s all over.  Cheers!

Re: Chase Slate - So mad at myself!!!

You guys crack me up.  PC the Slate to a Freedom for sure.  I just neutered my Freedom and CSP a bit to give me room on my Slate for a BT ($3500 was a much lower SL than I had hoped for, but they did just give me a $12k CSP a few months ago).  +1 on drunk apping, but boy did I get some of my best CLIs that way with the liquid courage!  In 12 months I'm moving that $9700 (well $9200 I guess) over to CSP and closing the Slate.

Re: Chase Slate - So mad at myself!!!

think you might have to PC to a FU and then that card to an Freedom if you want one.. thought I saw it somewhere.... but cant remember it for the life of me. For some silly reason they dont like going from Slate to Freedom...

Drapping has its pros and cons...
