Also to add I'm an 18 year old student at Penn State University. So I buy groceries a lot but I use my 3% blue Amex for them and 2% back for gas. Also I find myself using my cap1 QS heavily on Amazon/Any other store I need stuff from. My citi thank you I use for going out because 2X points on dining and entertainment is nice. Now I have a choice with this chase card to be another 1.5% cashback or the freedom 1% and 5% if I get lucky with categories. I'm planning a lot of travel this summer international and domestic. These are pretty much my spending habits
Just looking at your pose.. a few questions:
IF you have heavy Amazon spend, why not a Chase Amazon Visa? (5%) - by using your QS1 on Amazon, you are effectively throwing out 3.5% !!!!! Open an Amazon Visa, and if the SL is low, have them move some of the CL from your other card after you PC it.
Also, if you spend a lot on groceries, as you stte, you might be better off with an Amex BCP, as opposed to Blue - BCP gets you 6% up to $6K per year on groceries - een with the AF its still a good deal
This is the response I got back:

My guess is that people use more the CFU than CF and Chase makes more money with CFU, that's why they push CFU. Some people think that Chase may close the regular Freedom in the future, at least for new apps.

So can anyone shed some light on my best option would be? I wouldn't mind having another 1.5% cashback card although I thinks it's kinda dumb but at least I'll be earning money back, but those rotating 5% categories could come in handy. Also I'm not opening anymore cards as I'm content with what I have and want to stay under 5/24 rule for a CSP within the next year or later. Gardening and building my current cards
If you think the 5% categories work for your spend and your goal is a CSP, then plain Freedom is the one to get. It sounds like a lot of your spend would be dining and travel anyway, so once you get the CSP you'd be getting 5x on Freedom categories, 2x on dining and travel, and 1x on everything else. Redeemed for travel through Chase, that's like 6.25%, 2.5% and 1.25%. Obviously, to maximize UR points even more, you could consider adding the Freedom Unlimited later after you get the CSP to get 1.5% for non-travel/dining/category purchases, or 1.875% back for travel redemption.

Yeah I originally wanted the regular freedom but if the FU is better than I'll stick with that. Does anyone have any opinions on what I should do? I want to respond to the SM tomorrow morning with a decision go for FU or ask for Freedom?
If you want the freedom then you should get it. If it turns out you don't like it then you can change it to an unlimited. Or vice versa. Either way good job starting your credit early. Be careful with it.
Just an update.
When I first asked about changing Slate to a freedom card, they offered the Freedom Unlimited. But when I asked specifically about the original freedom, Chase replied with "an account that is open less than 12 months is not eligible to change to a different product." So YMMV. I guess I'm waiting til twelve months.
Update: After 3 or so messages back and forth, they changed my slate to a freedom unlimited. Professional APR will stay the same, etc, etc. They haven't responded yet...but I imagine i'll recieve a new card in a few weeks.
