Could someone explain how upgrading works? Is it another app? I'm way beyond 5/24.

It'll probably be treated as a PC and you get to keep your credit line/history on that card as long as you have had your current SW card at least a year since the CARD Act won't allow you to upgrade to a higher AF otherwise.

Looks like I'm going to be hold off for a few weeks. I app'd/approved in August last year. Gives me time to evaluate it and upgrade within their promotion period if I choose to go after it.

Re: Chase Southwest Priority Card

Some updated information: You can check at www.prioritycardupgrade.com to see if your Southwest card qualifies for the upgrade with 5,000 bonus RR points. My Premier card didn't!

So I called the Chase SW Customer Service line at (800) 792-0001 and asked them if they could do it for me. Turns out there's no way she could do it either, unless the cardmember has been tagged by the system for the upgrade with bonus points.

She verified that I acquired my Southwest card in March 2016. So another option for me is to simply pay my existing balance off, cancel my current Premier card, wait 72 hours, and apply for the Priority card. That way, I'd get the sign up bonus, which is a lot more than 5,000 points. However, since I'm way past 5/24, I don't think that's a viable option for me, since the Southwest card is subject to Chase's 5/24 rule.

I'm going to hang tight for another few weeks to see if I'm flagged for the 5,000 point bonus upgrade offer. You have until September 30th to upgrade and make a purchase, so I have more than a month to find out.
