Hello Friends!
I've recently increased my financial knowledge and income substantially. With that, I've been accepted by several CC companies for as much as 10k CCs with NFCU and USAA, and a 6k card at CapOne, as well as a 2k card at BoA with offers for more new CCs from BoA. I've had a Chase Amazon rewards card for a while now. It was tremendously difficult to acquire. During the long, over the phone interview i went through to get the amazon rewards card, i found out that Chase was the holder of the Military Star card i owned as a younger adult, which i failed to pay properly. I eventually was accepted, but my Chase card is my lowest CC and my most used, due to amazon. I'm attempting to buy about $5k worth of amazon video equipment, but with a $500 limit, I'm a little screwed on getting my 5% back. Any suggestions?
I've attempted to increase my credit score (about 699 lately for all 3), and I've been recently accepted into AMEX PRG, but Chase's latest (6-8 weeks ago) convo with me was no go on a CLI. Any help would be fantastic before i try again!
Check for Disco prequals. I'm getting 5% back at Amazon this quarter and they're far and away my most generous CL. Heck, I spent 4% of my limit last cycle and they auto-CLI'd me and then SP gave me more!
Yeah, I would go with Discover at least for the time being if you're trying to secure good cashback from Amazon. That'll even be 10% since you'll be in your first year. After that, see if you can get a CLI again or even open a new card you might be prequalified for and then move limits around.
Which number did you call to speak with them for recon? HP today and after a brief call and a quick “secondary review” after the call, I went from $1,000 to $10,000 in a few hours after 14 months with the card.
Discover as have been mentioned is probaly the best choice.
Try not to cycle the CL for GCs, you need to cycle it 10 times to get 5K worth of GCs and that can't look too good from Chase's perspective.
btw. Not too sure about 'amazon video equipment', but for video equipment in that price range there could be other dealers that can work with you to give a better deal than 5% back.
Discover also already announced the 2018 categories and they're repeating a quarter of 5% Amazon next year.
IMO Discover is the far more user friendly lender although everyone's experience is different. Discover offers SP CLIs, they will often lower one's APR over time upon request, and just have been easy to work with in my experience. Chase is much more "This is what we're giving you, take it or leave it" type of lender. They are not known for typically being generous on CLIs but YMMV. The Amazon is a good card but there are other things out there with similar benefits so it doesn't have to be the be all end all.
