I have 2 chase cards. A chase free and a toysrus/babiesrus.
Both have a 0 balance. i called to see if I could combind the two cards so i only have 1 cc with them. they told me that they would have to pull a credit report (soft) to see if i can have all the available to me. Like it wasn't already?
Prolbem is, cause I know it is a soft pull, I just paid all my cards balances and it won't show up for a while. She told me that it is possible that pulling my reports could also have a negative effect on my accounts.
I kind of don't understand because I have used these cards very well, and already have that avalible credit just on 2 different cards. So now I have to wait for the reports to update to get this done.
anyone?
what is your question exactly?
if it is when to combine, you may as well have your recent payments show on your cbr (since they claim they need to soft you to combine) and then request the combo.
if the csr was correct and it is indeed a soft pull, the soft inq. won't ding your score. however, chase is renowned for harding in connection with a card holder requests for cli's. i dunno if they do this also for combos requests.
As score_building stated, Chase is notorious for pulling hard inqs for just about any cardholder initiated request involving credit limits. However, I had 2 Chase cards and was able to combine them last spring without a hard pull. I'm not sure if they softed me, but I never saw one show up when I backdoored EX, which is who they normally soft.
You might call back and ask a different CSR. If you get the same reply, then it's more than likely a new policy due to the credit crunch. The majority of lenders seem to be getting antsy now.
I would definitely call and speak to another CSR.
I just somehow dont think she knew what she was speaking about. The credit is already available to you so it just does not make sense.
