I don't understand one being surprised when their card gets closed for non use. Banks want to make money and if you aren't using their card, they are not making any. They can give that credit limit to someone who will use it. Sorry OP about the closure, but if you haven't used a card in 3 years, that's to be expected. If you don't want your card closed for inactivity, use it every so often.

I am not surprised nor did I mention any type in my post. I know my relationship with chase and chose not to use the card because the limit was so small. I was ecstatic when they gave it to me because it was my first rewards card. I attempted to raise the limit once before and was denied with my scores in the 700's. This was more of a bewilderment on why Chase has chosen this route with me. I am not perfect with Credit but my one big hiccup was a student loan almost 7 years ago the account is now payed in full. No collections, No BK, Verifiable income and I have two accounts with them both with excess of 20K they have been making money off of me. I have plenty of Credit I will be fine.
@Anonymouswrote:I may call and see if I can persuade them to keep it open it has probably been 3 years since I used it. I called them 2 years ago when my credit was already better and explain that I wanted to use it as an everyday card but with a $5000 limit that was not possible. I could app for another but I m on the cusp if the 5/24 so maybe next year. I currently have 75K in available credit and after 61 days with Amex that well could be close to 100K I have no need for the card other than the AAOA. I wan never a Chase customer they bought out Washington Mutual and that is how I got in with them. My Amazon Visa with Chase is another $500 card but I do use that for purchases I wonder if I can move the 500 from the Freedom to the Amazon?
Yes, you should be able to move the limit, no problem. My question is why would you want to close a 5/24 card when you intend to get another one when you fall under 5/24? Keep it open, apply for something else when you fall under 5/24, and reallocate the limits as necessary.
Chase has never been a generous CLI-giving bank, so it's more beneficial to apply for another card, and reallocate limits as necessary. I did that with my AARP card that I got almost a year ago. I couldn't get a CLI on my Freedom either, so I apped for the AARP card, used it heavily during the intro 0% APR period, then stopped using it last October. A couple of weeks ago I sent them a secure message, telling them to close the AARP card and move the $9K limit to my Freedom Unlimited, making it a respectable $12.5K.
Account closurse for non-usage can be reversed, from what I read recently. If a CSR can't do it, the EO should be able to, especially if you have other assets with them, like OP does.

So have you ever apped for a different Chase card? I received the same notice on my oldest Chase card several years ago. I called and requested that it stay open. A year later I apped for other Chase cards. I then moved the limit to one of them and closed it. I never received a CLI on that card in 7 years.
I think there is a slight problem with this. The issue is non usage. I believe you'd have to let the card go for 30 days without using it before you could move the limit. In this case the limit is already only $500. I had to leave $500 on my Freedom card when I combined it with my CSP but that might have been because I didn't go 30 days with no usage.
It's almost a catch 22 because they want him to use the card.
Just close the card. $500 will be an insignificant reduction to your overall credit limit. And stop worrying about AAoA because the closed card will still count for ten years.
I have no clue what is going on now. 3 days after recieving this letter in the mail I get a new card from them with an experation date of 2023.
Just got off the phone with Chase it is now not being closed. I should have asked for a CLI but 3 HP's this month is enough. I guess I will move my netflix and something else too it and just pay it off monthly.
