Another victim above to this closure! I know you all want answers, as you should, but after you get those answers I would run run run from these clowns. Take your business to the credit unions. NFCU and PenFed are very generous institutions and I haven't seen them taking this kind of crazy AA in any threads recently so...
Very sorry to hear about that. There seems to be quite the rash of these closures going around, both at Chase and Bank of America. Let's see if we can try to figure out more accurately why they closed you down. Some questions come to my mind (others may think of more
They cited number of inquiries and number of new cards - how many of each have you had in the past six months or so? Too many (store cards, Cap 1)! They still approved me with these already in my profile . Once I was able to get a "real" card, there was no reason for more apps.
Which card had the 4500 CL, or did all of them have the same CL? How long had you had the other two cards (Freedom and Freedom Unlimited)? Both Freedom and Unlimited had $4500 each.
What other CC's do you have, if any, and how long have you had them? What are their CL's and balances? (One very important thing to keep in mind - you may know about this already, in fact - is Chase's so-called "5/24" rule; if you want a Chase CC, no more than five total new accounts, including other Chase CC's, may be opened in a twenty-four-month period. More than that and you're liable to be denied.) I do have more than 5 new accounts in the past 24 months. I did when they approved me. I have Cap 1 Quicksilver 1 and Secured Plat. I also have Credit one, but haven't used it in about 6 months. I have a slew of store cards from Commenity and Synch.
Did you make a habit of PIF'ing or (as it appears from this post) did you carry a balance? I had a balance of $500 on the freedom and $750 on the unlimited (have a scheduled $500 payment already set for that one online).
Did you try to pay more than the minimum payment each month? Yes, I always pay more than the minimum.
Did you make payments to your account more than once a month? I usually pay once per month on these.
Did you ever engage in any spending patterns known to raise red flags with issuers, such as "manufactured spending" (MS)? Grocery store, gas, walgreens
If possible, I'd suggest escalating the issue to Chase's Executive Office - look for phone numbers/emails in that department. Some banks, such as BoA, have specialized sections within their executive department dedicated to urgent customer service.
Don't give up hope. Remember, the OP in this thread has gotten at least one Chase official to concur that their closures were done in error. I can see where they are coming from, because I do have a lot of new cards. I just don't understand why they approved me in the first place! I had the cards and the inquiries when I was approved.
My credit isn't good, but it has been steadily gowing up after a nasty divorce and basically no credit for 5 years. This is just going to knock me right back down.
The LO stated that there was no reason to recon and that once the accounts are closed, they are closed.
Thanks Knightowl. I was told there was not a chance in he double hockey sticks that they would reopen the accounts. I'm still in a bit of shock. My income is good, 100% on time payment history for the cards I have, always pay more than min. I guess they goofed by approving me in the first place!

Don't ever listen to that. Keep calling until you speak to somebody who is willing to help.
So at the end of the day, it looks like the banks are taking a more agressive approach and reviewing their portfolios.
Do any of you that have had this happen get any alerts of a soft pull or credit report activities? I do not use any services at this time. So might be a dumb question, but I had to ask it.
Something for sure is up here. I think for all with new cards, I would really try and fly under the radar for a while.
My wife and I have not opened any new cards for quite a while now. I am waiting approval to join NFCU but I just want to park some cash in their 3% certificate for the next year. If they offer a card, I'll most likely go for it even though we do not need the credit.
Caution is advised!
Wow this definitely makes me want to close my account with them. I've opened 3 new accounts since getting my Chase Freedom in February. I'd rather close it than it showing them closing it on my report. 😩😩
@poshshop: I would definitely not take that as the final answer from Chase. I'll echo others: keep pressing them, look for ways to escalate your case, and don't give up.
I think even people with established accounts need to be more careful for at least the next while. I'd advise, among other things, avoiding linking checking accounts to credit cards or loans issued by the same bank; avoiding anything that looks like manufactured spending (it does look as if the actions at least a couple of banks are taking are aimed at curbing that, or other forms of "points abuse"); avoiding frequent CLI requests, or other actions aimed at raising your credit lines very high (this factor is a variable, but it does look as if people with exceptionally high CL's are vulnerable to being AA'ed in the current circumstances); heck, in fact, basically avoiding ANY action that might cause the issuer to take a look at your account and credit report(s) that they otherwise wouldn't. In short, like @RockinRay says, stay as low under the radar as you can and wait for the storm to blow over.
ugh my stomach already dropped this week when i was looking over threads about syncrhony playing games. i have been gardening for over a year until a few months ago carecredit upgrade my card to mastercard and made a new account.
i was building everything up on my profile so that i could use my credit currently for a business venture and got a new mazda which is financed through chase! they actually put my car profile into my account area and let me setup my payments through that without me even talking with them and quick! that kind of freaked me out at the time.
i also just got another card from them, previously just had the freedom card. last week i did a balance transfer to my bank 0% with a small fee. i also planned on using the new card during its 0% for all sorts of daily expenses during its 0% period over the next year.
so i will potentially be maxed with chase, that was the goal. i also will almost max out a summit card, amazon, and may even use the walmart card for some big purchases if there financing period comes back in store.
in the last few months i have like 8 inquiries from new cards, car dealership and 2 cell phone companies. in that time i got the new carecredit, lowes, newegg, chase card, chase backed car loan.
scary stuff i of course will be back to scream if something happens to my profile. i really wanted to take advantage of the cards offers over the next 12-18 months. i have no negatives on my file. if i follow through my utilization with chase would have been just under %90, overall way less than 50% on the cards.
I would call and recon. If that doesnt work send a letter to the Chase Card Services CEO and explain your situation.
well that k!nd@ sux
