Coming from an IT background, I would suggest that you might not want to be logging into personal things from work anyway... it's possible that your info might be seen by others there at the company. Not super common from my experience, but it does happen.
I log in from work all the time. I'm logged in here from work right now.
Work in IT as well and always do my banking from my Work Laptop.. I am on call 24x7 so figure mise well use they nice macbook pro they provided to me vs. buying my own .. All depends on the company you work for and the policies as obviously any site can be blocked if they want to. Just use common sense when doing anything on a work computer, but bank accounts and CC's from a work computer is the least of my concerns.. Now if I wanted to goto an adult site, that might not be good for my career although that has also happened on mistake more than a few times as well..
X2 in Re to working in IT. I also check my bank sites with my work laptop. I would never get on anyone for doing the same. Having said tha,t I'm curious as to why your folks haven't updated your browsers. I'd be concernced about security.
Depending on the monitoring at your work and how anal retentive they are, you may want to refrain from personal sites at work. That said, it probably isn't a big deal. I find your use of out-of-date browsers to be much more concerning. That's something your IT guys should know about and update. If nothing else, you can probably request an update to a later browser. I'd recommend Chrome at the moment. Most IT departments that I've worked with have been happy to install a new browser with no questions asked, since it really is a personal preference thing.

Right, it is purely policy driven. In my mega-company, there are groups where the rules are clear, absolutely no personal internet use at work from work computers (and the worst would probably also forbid you using your personal smartphone "You are here to work". Others don't mind.
But adding a new browser would be a big deal because they prefer locked images (varying by role) and any browser not already in the image would be viewed as an untested addition. (And saying "I need it so that Chase.com" works wouldn't go well!
But I agree with Petrovius, a browser old enough for Chase to complain is probably a security risk!
