Back in my young, silly days (1994/age 22?) I rec'd a FirstUsa Visa Gold w/ a 5k limit. I charged it up and forgot about it. I was in college, sheesh! Fast forward and it went to a CA w/ roughly a 10k balance. I paid and I paid and I settled in June 2005.
About 3 weeks ago I took a chance and applied for a Chase Amazon Visa. I love Amazon, really. I have a bunch of household items auto-shipped and I buy tons of books and videos for school.
So, after waiting and waiting I finally got the dreaded "we don't think you're worthy" letter. Their reason for denial was:
"Overlimit or past due history on existing accounts."
Hmmm. This didn't really sound like a good reason to me (lol). I haven't had any negative marks for over 3 years. Sure I have some skeletons in my closet, but forgive and forget, right?
So I called for recon. The very nice CSR immediately brought up that they show I have a 1.9k CO. Interesting. I explained how I settled the acct w/ a CA, the timeline for that, etc.
So we went over my current report. I think the thing that helped the most was the fact that I just paid off my car lease for 14k and change. She kept commenting on what a huge deal that was to make such a big payment. She asked how I use my cards and whether or not I PIF or carry a balance. I explained that I'm carrying a balance on a low interest card at the moment b/c I'm getting ready to close on a house and need to show the reserves in the bank.
End result? Approved for 4k. Chase is my new best friend!
HTH someone!
