Chase forgives, but never forgets..

Back in my young, silly days (1994/age 22?) I rec'd a FirstUsa Visa Gold w/ a 5k limit.  I charged it up and forgot about it.  I was in college, sheesh!  Fast forward and it went to a CA w/ roughly a 10k balance.  I paid and I paid and I settled in June 2005.

About 3 weeks ago I took a chance and applied for a Chase Amazon Visa.  I love Amazon, really.  I have a bunch of household items auto-shipped and I buy tons of books and videos for school.

So, after waiting and waiting I finally got the dreaded "we don't think you're worthy" letter.  Their reason for denial was:
"Overlimit or past due history on existing accounts."
Hmmm.  This didn't really sound like a good reason to me (lol).  I haven't had any negative marks for over 3 years.  Sure I have some skeletons in my closet, but forgive and forget, right?

So I called for recon.  The very nice CSR immediately brought up that they show I have a 1.9k CO.  Interesting.  I explained how I settled the acct w/ a CA, the timeline for that, etc.

So we went over my current report.  I think the thing that helped the most was the fact that I just paid off my car lease for 14k and change.  She kept commenting on what a huge deal that was to make such a big payment.  She asked how I use my cards and whether or not I PIF or carry a balance.  I explained that I'm carrying a balance on a low interest card at the moment b/c I'm getting ready to close on a house and need to show the reserves in the bank.

End result?  Approved for 4k.  Chase is my new best friend!

HTH someone!

Re: Chase forgives, but never forgets..

Go Chase! BTW the day after Thanksgiving when everyone is making a mad dash for sales at the stores, I log on to Amazon--get great deals, and watch the items for 30 days. They have a 30 day price guarantee, so if the product goes down in price they refund the difference to your credit card! I got a nice refund last year!

Congrats on the new Chase card.  I love Chase.  They are the first prime card I have received since I started rebuilding.  WTG.

Re: Chase forgives, but never forgets..

My only problem with Chase is the hard pull for a customer initiated CLI.  But now I think I will just wait and see if I get one free  Smiley Very Happy

Apart from that I like them - quite generous really, and customer service has always been good
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

LOL -- actually sextuple (as in 6x) for the first 90 days!  Whoop!

Thanks all!

And to MV -- I'm hoping that I'm happy w/ 4k and don't need to request a higher CL.  This card could very easily become my EVERYTHING card, tho.  Smiley Wink

Not sure about that, but I know I got some deals that were better than the ones in the stores, and I had alerts set up and got two Wii's. Both for nieces and nephew's. it was a rocking Christmas!

Keep an eye open for gold box deals, some are AMAZING!

LOL -- Yup, I puffy heart Amazon.  I even paid for the 'prime' shipping thing b/c there are days when I need something for school and I need it NOW.  I browse the gold box stuff, but nothing has ever really caught my eye.  I do scope out their clearance stuff occasionally.

I'm guessing I've easily spent about 5k on Amazon over the years.  I'm currently looking to buy a cordless mower thru them.  Oooooh, think of all of those points!  Smiley Wink

I can't forget to mention double points (well 4x for 90d) at gas stations, restaurants, office supply stores and drug stores.

Thanks for the reminder on the gold box stuff Miah!  Smiley Happy

Re: Chase forgives, but never forgets..

You are welcome! Normally the gold box is best during the holidays. They had a Kitchen Aid Professional Stand Mixer for $99 last year. It retails for $500. So needless to say I jumped on that--great gift for MIL.

You can't beat triple points on those purchases either! I signed up with the free $30 and got it right away as a credit--SCREAMING FAST!
