Chase freedom denied-should I call recon line?

Hi everyone, I'm 26 and I currently have a Capital One secured card with a $200 limit I pay every month in full. Have had it for 6 months as of October 16th and it's the only mark on my credit report, no derogatory marks at all. Applied for Chase Freedom card and was denied. Tried calling Recon line and the guy said that basically I have insufficient history. Credit Karma score is 693 but until October 16th my FICO is 0 since I've only used cash and debit until this point in my life.

Should I call the recon line again tomorrow and hope for an approval or where should I go about to get a new CC? I know I need 3-5 revolving accounts and eventually want a Chase Sapphire Preferred so I figured a Freedom was a good first step and the teller at Chase recommended I apply.

Re: Chase freedom denied-should I call recon line?

You can try reconning it but Chase usually needs a 6 - 12 mos credit history or AAOA. Its a little hard to get approved for cards if your Fico score is 0, creditkarma score is not a real score. Fico score is your real score.

CK score is worth about as much as a possum's pecker when it comes to this game.

Recon it for sure.

I'll have 6 months on Thursday and as such get my FICO score established then. I had a feeling I should've waited until Thursday or after but the teller told me that I would likely get approved.

And should I wait until Thursday when I actually have a fico score to recon it?

I got my wife approved and she only has 2 months of credit history.

I think you should recon.

Called recon earlier and guy from Chase said lack of sufficient history and I didn't know what to say so I said ok, that I appreciated him taking the time to explain to me, and hung up. Calling again tomorrow hopefully get a different agent that can push it through. Just want to get my foot in the door and get an unsecured card and eventually build up my credit

Re: Chase freedom denied-should I call recon line?

Called again and got a much more detailed explanation. Despite my capital one currently having a balance of $0 and currently having all $200 available it looks like the last time it got reported it had a balance of $162. Idk when they report balanced but the person at Chase said that was the reason. In any case, no derogatory marks, just credit reporting a balance.
