Its not always about the score. I'd be curious to know what your father's history looks like...payments, age of history, loans, etc. If he has a thick profile it is possible this will outweigh the FICO score. There are too many unknown factors to give a certain answer but I'm guessing there is more to his approvals than just his score.

Yeah, I agree they are kinda unpredictiable as well. Chase gave me $24K in one day when I applied with a 36% UTIL and everyone said I should wait because my CL would be real small if I was approved. Lo and behold! Thank you, weird Chase.
It definitley isn't about the score. I see a number of people here with 700+ scores a few years out of bankruptcy.
I also had an unpaid CO from 5 years ago that I recently paid (settled) and was instantly approved for amex, chase and discover. They all pulled EX which is my worst report - last time I checked my EX fico was 651. Now with the pulls & CO settlement my EQ fico is down to 674 from 699.
