kicked down the garden fence today and decided to app for the marriot premier, got the 7-10 day message so I called the credit analyst and they transferred me to the vertification/ fraud department. Wasn't asked the usual questions such as doB, home address, or my moms maiden name. But instead I was asked questions about my other chase CC accounts information. They asked what my CL was on those account and what I had payed recently when the statement closed. After that I was approved.
Is this something new that they do? Since I have never been ask these type of questions before. Something to do with the target breach?.
Run into this before but not with Chase, after thinking about it it was Chase and Discover. Like others have said, it is more relevant than questions from ten years ago in our life.

Discover asked me questions like this for a CLI and didn't ask for income. Also GE asked me about other accounts and payments etc.
I don't think it's a new thing w/ Chase, as I was asked all three times the same way.
This is also a form of verification. They just want to make sure that it's you who applied for the card and expect you should be able to answer any questions related to Chase/ Personal Information correctly.

+1 It seems based on these questions they don't have a problem giving the approval, but they just want to make sure its you applying and not some identity thief. I would imagine given the massive security breaches at target and potentially other merchants we will start to see more of this identity verification going forward.
Exact same questions for me and also for the Marriott card. Much better that way than with a verification software. Recently had to reply to the following question: Which lender do you have an account with and the answers were not multiple choice ...Discover and Barclays in the option left me puzzled
.... unnecessary to say that I failed because at playing lottery I am not good either. ...so my DCU membership got denied
... I think I am done with CUs after this experience.
I agree some software sucks!
Run into it before though I forget who with.
Aloha, when I app'd for my Marriott rewards, I was asked about my freedom card, credit limit, a purchase I made for $1000 my last 3 charges, then the standard DOB, maiden name stuff. Was approved sorta painless. GL.
