I just got declined for a Amazon Chase Visa. The reasons were:
Your credit report reflects delinquent past/present credit obligations <------ LIE!! I have no derogs
Overlimit or past due history on existing accounts <---------- NOT ONE!! I check my credit report once a week to make sure it is accurate.
I called the recon line in inquire what was going on and the representative said I owed them $280 on an old bill, and that it doesn't reflect on my credit report but it reflects in their system. I seriously think they are on something. My FICO is not bad, I have a 743. I consider it a blessing in disguise that I was declined.
In other news, I was approved for a PenFed Visa!!

Did you? If so I can understand the instant denial.

Hmm. should I get declined for a Chase, or accepted for a PenFed...This woulda made my day...
Hi Karatz,
Yes, actually it did make my day! I was approved on the last day they were offering their 2.9 balance transfer rate so I got in right under the wire. I transferred my citibank balance over that was currently at 15.9 percent. The amount I transferred was small (less than 1k) but still, every little bit helps!!!
To the OP: Your screen name is NH_CarDealer. Are you self-employed? If so, do you think that could be the cause of some of the wrinkles in getting approval? Are you using personal auto loans to finance cars you are dealing??? Could that be scaring them away?
My husband has been self-employed since the early '90s. We are used to having to jump through a lot of hoops for some creditors. Self-employed folks don't always fit nicely into their criteria.
I am an independant car salesman...my house has a new and used car dealer license attached to it...but I work full time for my family's five franchise dealerships...
