Chase "Internal Limit"?

I've read some creditors have an "internal limit" for each customer.. Is that true? Also, how do you go about finding out that number and/or how to raise?

Re: Chase "Internal Limit"?

I found mine when I asked for a CLI and they gave me $4,500 when I asked for $10k.  I received a letter that stated that I was at the maximum they would extend me.  For me that number is $30k

Re: Chase "Internal Limit"?

I am presently at 50% of my annual income and wonder if that is the limit... I guess I might find out next year when I send in a new app

Funny you should post this as I had tried searching for this info for a few days. My annual income is $52,800 and I have a Ritz card at 24.5k putting me at roughly 46% of my annual income. Chase had been hounding me for weeks to sing up for another card, but I didn't want to apply if only to get a $2,000 limit because I was at my Chase internal limit. I was preapproved for a CSP so I was confident I could get a limit of at least $5,000. I didn't want to move limits around to get a new card either.

So today I went for the Freedom and was auto approved at 10k. So know I have 34.5k between two cards on a 52.8k income. So Chase is comfortable giving me 2 cards with a combined limit roughly 65% of my annual income. I would have to think I am at the top of how much they would give me.

Re: Chase "Internal Limit"?

I'm going to assume it is not a simple as calling into the credit analyst dept. and they would simply disclose that?

Re: Chase "Internal Limit"?

Ysettle I don't mean to hijack your thread but I want to ask a question regarding my situation regarding this "internal limit"

About 3 months ago I was approved for the CSP with a $5k limit. This was my first chase product and my credit history is rather limited (year of history only). Soon after I applied for the freedom soon after the CSP and was denied. They told me I had reached the limit they were willing to offer me at that moment, I needed more history. Fast forward 3 months, Sunday, I requested a CLI and was approved for an increase of $3k which brought my total CL on my CSP to $8k. I tried recon CL to have them reconsider a $10k CL. It was denied because I had reached the most they can offer me at $8k. I was pretty upset but curious. Curiosity definitely didn't kill the cat but instead got me approved for The Ritz Carlton credit card right after the CLI recon denial. This made me think, I guess they are willing to extend more credit to me but only if I would apply for another Chase product. I have a total CL with Chase of $13k between two products. I am thinking of apping for a Freedom product but am hesitant since I may be pushing it since I received a cli and a new RC CC. BUT, they did say that I had reached the max they were willing to lend when I was approved for that $3k CLI on my CSP.

My question after this long paragraph is, has anyone had a similar experience to mine? Did you attempt to apply once more when you were pretty sure you'd be denied?
