Anybody had any recent luck with chase getting a rate reduction ? im getting raped with a 25.99% apr and my credit union will give me a loan to pay it off at 13%
what number would be best to call to make this request ?
thanks in advance
I have tried SOOO many times to get Chase to lower the APR on my Freedom card from 24.24% (it was 12.49 before they raised it) but I have never had any luck. And it is especially frustrating when I get a preapproval letter in the mail every week for another Freedom card with 14.99% APR. When I call they always say they can't do it because I had to option to close the account and refuse the change in terms before the changes went into effect.
So I just use my Freedom card once every 2 or 3 months for a tank of gas or something like that and PIF and back into the sock drawer it goes.
But if you have any luck, please share!
I called Chase for an APR reduction when I became aware of the rate jacking scenario a while back. The CSR I spoke with refused to do it, and made a snarky comment that "If I can't afford to use my Chase card, then please use someone else's." I was a WAMU customer for 15 years before Chase bought them. I had a $20,000 CL, never any issues or lates. Needless to say, I took her advice. I will never use a Chase product as long as I live, and I actively try dissuade anyone I know from using them.

I was also a WaMu customer, and get EXTREMELY rude customer service when calling. In fact, once I called and asked if they could lower it, and the CSR responded "Didn't you call about this a few months ago? Do you really think that anything changed? We won't lower it for you and if we do, we will do it automatically. Stop calling and asking!" I couldn't believe it!
I used to think BoA's customer service was bad, but Chase is way worse!

Did you get this response as you quoted or this was the gist of it? If these were the exact words, I will be really upset at chase.
i just barely got the united chase visa signature card its at 14percent apr and i guess on this card is the lowest they have. only thing i dont like about it is its a signature card and they wont put the credit limit on your credit report. i am wondering why they dont report your credit limit on there.

Direct quote. I will never apply for a Chase product because of my experiences with Chase since the WaMu conversion. I am very big into brand loyalty; find a good company to do business with and stick with it. Chase is not that company IMO. There are too many big banks and smaller CU's to do business with. Citi, US Bank, WF, and Amex are the only cards that stay in my wallet, and those all treat me well, and I do the same in return.
They were nice enough to convert my card to a Freedom. But even that is not enough for my to use it. I have a Discover More, and the rewards calendar is almost identical. I would much rather use my Discover.
This card is my 3rd oldest TL and 3rd highest CL, so I won't close it. I will keep my card and use it 4-5 times a year as I outlined above and if they close it, I really don't care. I have all the credit I need. And I especially don't need a card with a company like Chase.

If I was to hear this, I would do the same, another thing I will do is change my statement to paper so that they have to pay 44 cents everytime a statement cuts.
