No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
Chase Amazon noticed I haven't used their card since early this year. I decided after 15 yrs, Prime was no longer worth it. That makes their card pretty irrelevant except for the cash back deals at Amazon Fresh, but they're closing our local store early next year. The lower CL is fine and still more than we actually need. Tempted to just close the card. Ironically, carry 22K CL on Freedom card that we use even less. lol
"We periodicaly review customer accounts to make sure credit lines match their spending needs. During a recent review of your account and credit history, we noticed that your overall card usage with Chase and other issuers is low. Because of this, we may lower your credit limit to $6,000.00 in 50 days. If you anticipate a change in your spending needs, you can opt out of the review by contacting us at the number at the top of this letter or the number on the back of your card within 50 days.
If it were me I would close the Amazon card and probably close the Chase Freedom as well. The Chase Freedom because if they are warning of credit limit decrease one card too me it is a matter of time until you receive the same notice on the Freedom.
Just opt out?
@Turbobuick I just went through the opt out process, it's super easy. Took more time moving through the phone tree to get to an agent than the actual 30 seconds to request opt out and the rep updating the account.
Charge something for $5 and let the cards lay where they fall. Chase is very generous with their credit lines, but it's also speculated they have ceilings in how much they extend in total credit.
From a rewards card perspective, they control the market. So having too many open Chase lines, or high chase lines is non-productive.
Keeping the account open also adds ongoing age to the portfolio. Closing it gives a date plus 10 years - give or take. Keep it open, it costs nothing to do this.
This is an opportunity every which way.
If your not going to opt out, then I would take control and CLD the account to the amount I deem good for proper utilization. If you have a better option, CC, and/or never plan to use it, then close it.
