My Citi Aadvantage World Elite Mastercard is now two months old, and during a 5 week period, I was able to get the APR reduced from 18.24% down to 13.49%, in a series of three requests. Excited!
Many thanks to ihcole for posting his success in doing so. I would have had no idea it was possible to reduce the APR on a new card until I noticed his post.
I chatted online with reps on three separate occasions during a 5 week period and was successful each in time reducing the APR down to 13.49%. This rate is below the lowest published rate for the card, and the most recent rep I spoke with encouraged me to check back for a further reduction!
I do have a prior card with Citi in good standing, the Double Cash card that is now about 10 months old. I think there is something specific to the AAdvantage card relative to this rapid APR redux, as I have never seen it with another card before.
My spend on the card for the first two months has been about $3,200 ($3,000 was required to meet spend and I added a bit extra to ensure I met spend). I paid in full on the card each month.
I'm not certain that Citi had a lengthy enough period to evaluate my spend and payment behavior before granting the APR redux requests, so I can't say for certain which factors were involved.
Your mileage may vary, but I wanted to share that this is possible in hope that it helps someone. It is a great card and I have been very pleased with Citi!
Congrats. That is quite a bit of interest reduction in just 5 weeks. Makes you wonder why they just didn't give you that rate to begin with :-)

Thanks, Irish! I don't understand their reasoning, either.
ihcole did it in several steps (in a very short period of time) and I thought I might just give it a go after seeing his example. I never expected them to respond affirmatively!

Outstanding! Nothing better than APR reduction!

Thank you, musiclover! I am definitely enjoying the APR reduction!
Nice Job hum! APR reductions are just as good as CLIs!!

Thanks, dasingleton! I completely agree that they are very helpful!
Also wanted to mention that I believe scoreorbescored reporting getting an APR around 10% on this card- so there is hope for the card to go below published APR rates.
I don't think most of us will get it that low - I'd be happy just getting it down to 12% if possible!
