Citi CLI question

I have a citi diamond that I have put my balance transfers on. The limit is 8k and my balance is 5.3k. My last cli was on 5/24/13. My overall utilization is 10% which is ok with me but I don't like being that close to my limit on the Citi card. Do I have to wait exactly 6 months to request a cli? I asked about a month ago and it was denied with no pull at all because of the last increase. Are they sticklers for 6 months? I didn't want to have a balance that high at all but a dental emergency came up and I just put it on that card for the 0% interest. I just want more wiggle room and I wonder how much that balance is affecting my scores.

Re: Citi CLI question

I've always heard about 6 months, but when I asked them one time they said that you could ask pretty much every month for a CLI ... the problem is that they don't update their report on file every month, so your request is probably going to have the same result.  I'd look to see when they SP'd you on your report, then call and ask if you can request a CLI at that point.

Re: Citi CLI question

It's always going to result in a hp with them though right?

Also, on the letter they sent last time, it said it was because of me just having a cli back in May.

Re: Citi CLI question

I open my Simplicity in June and transferred a balance that gave me 70% Util on that card.  I've paid it down to 55% Util over 4 months and decided to call in and ask about a CLI.  They did give me a CLI from $7K to $10K but required a HP, it had only been open for 4 months.  I told them the reason I was requesting it was because the original limit they gave me was too low and I didn't like having such a high balance on the card.

It won't always be a CLI...I got a recent bump that was a soft.  I don't trust the online form, but if you call and ask if you're eligible for a CLI without a hard pull, they should be able to tell you that.  That's why, in theory any way, you can ask as often as you want.  Of course, I wouldn't advise that.

I did call them once and see if I was eligible for one without having a hp and they said No. They offered to submit a cli for me but I said no because it would be a HP. I did the cli button on my Home Depot card with them and they increased my limit but it was a HP. I wonder if they can use the same pull?

They will not use the same pull.  The HD is by managed separately by Citi Retail Services as opposed to the mainline Citi set of cards.  If your last CLI was in May and you're looking for another one within < 6 months, it will be HP.
