Citi CLI

I used to be able to click the CLI button and many times be instantly approved. Now for a long time, at least a year easy, I can't get an increase without filling out the information. During this time I made a large purchase and am about to finally pay it off in the next month. Do you think it is because I have been carrying a balance for awhile or what? Any way I can get an increase without filling out the information. I called customer service and they wanted me to fill it out too. Really don't want a hard pull (i think citi does hard pull) on my credit report.

Re: Citi CLI

From what has been posted here, when Citi asks for a form, it means a hard inq. You might want to avoid that at all costs.

From what I've also read, Citi will decline a CLI request for carrying large balances with them. I would wait until you paid it off before asking CLI.

The positive side to this is that Citi LOVES usage. So you also stand a good chance of demonstrating good usage history with them.

Re: Citi CLI

I get a CLI every month by clicking the CLI button. I've been carrying a fairly large balance since the card was opened about a year ago. They have been VERY good to me. BofA is the complete opposite for me though.

I've never filled out the form with citi. Just clicked every ~30 days and it's usually an instant ~$1800 or so.

How long have you had the card for?

And what is your limit, if you don't mind me asking. I've had my card for four years.

Well right now I only have 1 inquiry on my credit report from a BoA card I just received a week ago. My plan is to pay off my Citi and ask for a CLI on both cards around September. Right now my util on my Citi is about 14%. At one point a long time ago it was at a good 75% or so. If they ask me to fill out the form at that time I might just take the hard pull, I'm not sure. Can recon's be done with credit limit increases also instead of just approval on cards? I would try that too.

The card was opened about a year ago and the current CL is $9k.

Re: Citi CLI

Oh. My CL is 11k and I really wanted it raised to 15k but anytime I hit the button it wants a form filled out. I'm hoping when my balance is paid they will just raise me.

Yeah you can recon a CLI request denial.

Re: Citi CLI

Just be prepared to explain why you have hit the luv button so much. Explain why you need/want more credit. If you have a card with a higher line then say so and say that you like Citi but your current CL makes it hard for you to make them your number 1 card.

Goodluck!
