Citi Card After BK?

I am trying to rebuild my credit and restablish relationship post bk. Ch 7 filled 1/18 Discharged 4/18. Scores between 678-684. Several paid in full secured cards & installment loans since discharge.

I had a citi Home Depot card iib. However since my 4/18 discharge I as added as an AU to a family members 5 year old Citi Costco Anywhere Card, 20k limit perfect history.

Having been an AU on an account like this, would citi look past the prior iib account? Or how long should I wait to apply?

Any my thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Citi Card After BK?

Hi and welcome to the forums OP.

Unfortunately, being an AU on the Citi Costco CC will not have any bearing on the previous IIB or the current BK on file. Typically, it takes 5+ years to be elegible or to be considered for a variety of their core cards, including Costco.

Citi retail CCs tend to be more flexible with the BK, but YEMV.

I thought it was an automatic decline for any Citi (non co-branded, retail) card as long as you have a BK on your report. I'm 8 years post discharge and the Citi pre-qual always says nothing for me.

I actually had a Citi Best Buy card, but they inherited that from HSBC/Cap 1, and I closed it when Citi wouldn't budge on the $59 AF on the card.

Re: Citi Card After BK?

Not necessarily. Some individuals have been able to get Citi to approve CCs after 5+ years while IIRC the general consensus seems to be 7+ but it may vary for each individual. This, of course, is for their core CCs, like AAdvantage, TYP, DC, Costco, etc.

Now for CCs like Best Buy, Home Depot, Sears, that BK timeframe may differ, but I can't recall off the top how soon one can become eligible, especially if IIB.

Re: Citi Card After BK?

I am 6 yrs post BK now, and still reporting. Was approved Nov 18 for Home Depot for $500 and Dec 18 for Best Buy Sig Visa 3k. I did have significant citi iib. As you can tell by the approvals, the variance in the approvals are suprising.

I had a citi Home Depot card iib. I DID AS WELL, AND WAS ABLE TO GET APPROVED A YEAR AND HALF POST DC FOR ANOTHER CARD AGAIN. IT NOW HAS A $20K CL. IVE BEEN UNABLE TO THIS DAY BE APPROVED FOR ANY CORE CARDS THOUGH, AND IM 5 1/2 YRS POST DC. However since my 4/18 discharge I as added as an AU to a family members 5 year old Citi Costco Anywhere Card, 20k limit perfect history.

Having been an AU on an account like this, would citi look past the prior iib account?ABSOLUTELY NOT. Or how long should I wait to apply? THE ABSOLUTE MINIMUM TIME THAT IVE SEEN ANYONE BE APPROVED FOR THE COSTCO CARD, WHICH IS A CORE/LEGACY CARD IS ALMOST 5 YRS POST BK7 DC. YOU WONT BE APPROVED BEFORE THEN. CONCENSUS IS 5-7 YRS POST BK, DEPENDING ON REBUILD AND SCORES.

Any my thoughts would be greatly appreciated! THE RETAIL SIDE OF CITIBANK (BESY BUY, BROOKS BROTHERS, SHELL GAS, HOME DEPOT, ETC)..ARE FAIRLY EASY TO GET STARTING A YEAR POST BK, WITH A GOOD REBUILD. ALSO, HAVING CARDS ON THE RETAIL SIDE, WONT HELP IN GETTING A CORE/LEGACY CARD, SORRY. BUT, YOU CAN CHECK THE HOME DEPOT WEBSITE, AND THEY HAVE A PREQUAL LINK IF YOU WANT THAT BACK.

I burned Citi on a Home Depot card in my BK13.  My BK13 is still alive and well on my report for another 11 months.  Even so I was approved and still have my Citi Diamond Preferred, Double Cash, Simplicity, AAdvantage, Premier, and Best Buy Visa.  All of these were aquired post DC and with my BK13 still on my EQ which is what they always pull for me.  There is life after with Citi even if you burned them.

This is absolutely not true and I am the proof. I got my Best Buy Visa 17 months post discharge (2k limit) then 34 months post discharge I was approved for my Costco Visa ($7K limit).

Re: Citi Card After BK?

There were a few others who also were approved for the Costco card way before the the five year mark as well. Op search the approval forum with “Costco BK”.....you will be able to see them all.
