Citi Card Transfer to another Card

Hello all,

I have had a citi Costco card stuck at 4K limit for 2 years now.  No CLI's.  PIF every month.  Decent spend.

I have had a citi AAdvantage Platinum select stuck at 5K limit almost a year.  NO CLI's, PIF with heavy use.  Prob 10-15K a month spend with PIF every week.

I fly a lot with American Airlines, so thought why not apply for the Citi Executive World Elite.  To my suprise I was instantly approved for 21,800.  Costco and the other AA card went to review.

I dont need two AA cards, so can i ask to transfer the AA platinum select to the STRATA card or something else?  Is this an easy process or do i need to essentially apply?

I appreciate the help and feedback from you guys.   Have a fabulous Friday!!1

@biznob

Sounds like Citi really rolled out the red carpet with that $21,800 approval; congrats on landing the Executive World Elite! As for your AA Platinum Select, Citi typically allows product changes after the account has been open for at least 12 months; and the process doesn’t require a new credit pull if you go through their product change route. You’ll just want to call customer service and ask what options are available to you; sometimes they’ll even let you move some of the credit line over to another Citi card.

The Strata could be a good move if you want to diversify rewards, but keep in mind that product change options can be limited to certain “families” of cards; so it’s best to see their current upgrade/downgrade list. If your goal is to simplify and keep your AA spend focused on one card, this approach makes sense; especially since you’re already getting solid usage and PIF history across your Citi accounts.

you can contact them to check, but there may have been a change recently where AA cards can no longer be PC'd into Citi core cards (strata, double cash, custom cash etc.)

I'm not sure if they've kept that change in place, but you might be stuck with the AA card, or PC it to a $0 af version or close it
