Citi Copying Chase and Discover

I think Citi is trying to make the Best Buy Visa card rival the Chase Freedom Flex and Discover It cards. Within the last 12 months they have offered 5% back on Utilities, Grocery Stores, Wholesale Clubs and now Travel for a quarter at a time.

Those are good perks for a BestBuy store card......dang.  Is this the first year they've offered those kind of bonuses......Covid-era related maybe?

The OP refers to it as the "Best Buy Visa card"--so I'm confused! Is it a store card or a regular Visa card?

I am going to assume it is a Visa as one most likely cannot make travel purchases with the store version. But who knows these days

They've had similar offers in the past even pre-pandemic, including spend $X between Y and Z and earn $50 (or $100) depending on the promo.  Similar promotions for Sears MC and Shell MC, for example.

And, it's not the store card (if you noticed in the op), the OP reference the Best Buy Visa card.

Indeed, it's the only reason I've kept my Citi Shop Your Way card because they keep sending promotions like this my way. Easily my best no-AF card because of that

All  I've been getting from Citi are statements, BT offers, and PL. 

In other words, stuff I have no use for just like the card 🤷‍♀️
