If my girlfriend has a balance on a card and she need to do a balance transfer to a new citi double cash card, is there a fee for the first 18 months or does she have to pay the 3% fee? Just making sure I understand the card before my girlfriend applies. I see it says 0% intro Apr and balance transfers but it says like 4 different things about balance transfers. She has a balance on her lowes card.
Fee for doing BT is 3% of the total balance being transferred.
0% apr on the transferred amount untill BT period expires.
So, yes, she would pay 3% fee, but no additional interest for 18 months.
If there is a balance after 18 months, that amount becomes subject to regular apr.
Citi will tack on a 3% fee, but will not charge interest for 18 months.
Also if she isn't aware, she won't get 2% cash back on her BT
edit for typo
Thanks guys! Quick question. Is there a card without a balance transfer fee or should I go with citi double cash for her? She doesn't have a flat rate 2% card.
@Beast26 I don't know how Citi handles purchases while BT is present, but as a general rule, if BT is on the card, you don't use that card for purchases unless it comes with 0% intro apr for purchases, also.
And to answer your second question, OP, here's a thread to help you get started on some cards/banks that are offering 0% BT offers
How big of balance is she looking to transfer?
Citi is very unpredictable with SLs.
At the time when most of my cards were in $15K to $25K range, I was approved for Premier with $5200.00
Is her credit okay or are there things that could use some improvement?
To answer your question, outside of NFCU, I only know BECU offers 0%, $0.00 fee on BTs if approved, but joining if you don't live in WA can be a pain.

My experience with Citi has been similar to that of @Remedios whereas I've never gotten out of the gate with a high limit with them. The best I ever got is a flat $5k on my Prestige approval. All of my other cards (including the Prestige) have grown nicely with them over time but I've never had a SL that was anything to write home about.

I think her last account opened was over a year ago too. Citi pulls Eq here in NC.
