Citi DC

Have had the card for over 6 months now and run lots of dollars through it every month which doesn't help my utilization since they did not approve a very large amount.  Citi never gave me the automatic love that so mamy on these forums reported, so called them about a SP CLI.  Was initially told there would be no HP, but then the CSR advised that for some reason a HP would be required before a decision could be made.  He seemed as puzzled as I was.  Of course, I told him no HP that I would wait a few more months.  I pay in full every month, sometimes more than once a month, and have always paid a few days ahead of time.  My FICO scores are good.  Any guesses as to what is going on? Any advice?

Re: Citi DC

Can you afford the HP. With your scores (not sure of your complete profile) and history with them...you may get a pretty nice increase....good luck!! It would take you out of the garden though...so I get it...

Re: Citi DC

Go to your online account and check to see if it shows a SP increase. If so, request your desired limit from there. If it gives you an increase and that increase isn't enough. Request a HP increase and shoot for the stars.
It has to be pass the 6 months mark before it will allow an increase IME. And not a day sooner.

Re: Citi DC

I had initially been approved with an SL of $1,500 and then immediately requested a CLI upon receipt of the card at the same time as I had activated it, without even using it for any transactions, and they gave me a bump to $5,000 with that HP. The CLI link was there on my screen, and it did warn me of a HP, but I was willing to go for it. I requested 10,000 and got 5,000.

I'd say if you realllyyyyyy want the CLI for util purposes, and are willing to take the HP, it seems to be quite beneficial. If I was able to get that without even having any spend on the card, I'd venture to say you could get a significant bump as well with your usage. Most of my cards at the time of approval were at 8,000-12,000 which is why I was eager to request a CLI even if it costed me a HP. I mean, I'd already spree'd up on apps, one more HP wasn't gonna kill me.

Re: Citi DC

I've had my DC for 20 months now, $9k starting limit.  I normally put about $6k a month on the card and have had to pay the card in the middle of the month else I would have hit the limit.  Everytime I have checked online for a CLI it would require an HP which I wasn't going to do.  I've finally decided to move all my DC spend to my new Amex SPG card and for those few merchants that don't take Amex I'm moving the rest to my Chase FU.

It is probably just too early. Keep checking on line, and eventually the CLI text with "no credit report will be requested" will show up, then you can try for a SP CLI.

Or, as others suggested, just use the HP to see what CLI you can get for that effort. But yeah, out of the garden.

I would just remain patient until the SP button comes up.

Re: Citi DC

If your profile is good or Citi loves you you may get the sp increase. But not everyone gets the sp love just because its there. I finally got one 9 months in but they dont want to give me any luv. They did give me 600 bucks recently ,lol, which basically set back that 6 months timetable. Hopefully next time i am eligble they at least give that standard looking $12-1400 most get. If not ah well onto orher cards.Smiley Wink

Ps, Wow Nachos Libres, 6k a month and only 9k . In your case i would take the hp just because they might really open up the card for someone with that kind if spendSmiley Wink

Re: Citi DC

Every time I've went to their CLI screen, it has always shown the "no credit report" text but half the time I get denied anyways.

Of the last two attempts, the first was a denial, the second, 2 weeks later, got me a 1400 bump... They're wierd...

I'm a little confused by a few things.  You said you run lots of dollars through your card which doesn't help your utilization but later say that you PIF every month.  Utilization is based on your reported balance at the end of every cycle.  That's it.  Utilization has nothing to do with the amount of dollars your run through a card, so I wasn't really sure what you meant.

I believe what @IncrsCreditScore1 means is that the high utilization reporting isn't helping scores any, regardless of the PIF.

I used to have the same problem with my BCP; with a low credit line and heavy usage it perpetually reported with high utilization (and I got dinged for that) even though I always PIF; once I got a CLI the problem went away.

While it's possible to pay before the statement closes to bypass this issue many of us don't want to be burdened with this each month.  Especially if you have a number of cards (which describes many of us here) it's easier to just pay the bills as they come.

Edit:  can't spell
