So, I'm getting myself set up to apply for a BT card in June/July once the credit bureaus update my credit report. I've done a very good job with having all but two of my cards well under 30% utilization (some of them are under 10% after payments last month). Also, my scores have drastically increased due to my overall Util going from 65% to 24% and I think they will continue to increase when my Slate card gets near a $0 balance by next month. The partial balance that I'm trying to move over is from my Chase FU.
I narrowed down my final BT options to Citi Simplicity, Citi Diamond Preferred, Discover IT or BofA Bankamericard. I really want to get in with Citi, though I feel like Discover will be easier to get when the time is ready. WIth these selections, which one is worth getting if I need a decent CLI in 6-9 months as well as a good option to eventually PC in about 18-24 months?
Discover was probably last on my choices of cards. But you're right, that could be the easier of the three to get. I was thinking with Citi, maybe eventually PC the Simplicity to the DC or Rewards+ in about two years. But I have read that the initial SL for Simplicity is not the greatest at times since it's a starter card.
Also, does Discover have a card that is specifically for BT? When I check the website, the cash back and gas/restaurant cards have the same 0% APR for 14 months for transfers. But I thought that I saw it on a site that Discover had one just for BT, though I could be wrong and the site was showing an old version of it.
I agree, Discover IT is probably the best choice. As it's not limited to just a BT card. Second would be Amex Every Day.
I wouldn't suggest Citi Simplicity as it's a very basic non rewards card.
Unles you plan to use said card exclusively for BTs all your life, I would choose one that offers other perks beyond the Intro rate on BTs.
