I have two Citi cards and would like to combine/close one.
Card 1 is a Dividend Platinum Select, opened in 2013 which has the lower interest rate
Card 2 is a Double Cash card (converted from Thank You), opened in 2002
i would like to end up with a Double Cash card with the combined limits and the lower interest rate on the 2002 account.
can this be done?
IMO, you can have one or the other. I'd transfer the diamond limit to the DC and close it. You can ask for an APR reduction, and I believe Citi is pretty excellent with that sort of thing, but YMMV.
Thanks. Would you try to do both at the same time or combine/close and then call later for the rate reduction? I'm thinking they may from on doing both at the same time
I'm thinking of doing just this, with my Citi Dividend and Citi DoubleCash. One call, and no luck.
I haven't given up hope.
Dont see why not. Just pc the dividend to the doublecash, combine limits, and close. If it were me, I would PC to the diamond preferred. Gets tons of offers every 2 months for random 5% off $500 categories as well as other apr promos and recurrent 17-19 month 0% bt offers.
Diamond preferred? Did you mean Thank You Preferred?

No, meant the DP. Believe it or not, it has had the craziest offers for many myficoers this year. Lots of single digit apr's (some permanent some temporary), and extra cash back offers.
It's not as easy to combine limits as indicated in this thread. Front lines CSRs almost always will tell you that it cant be done so you need to find a supervisor and even then it can be problematic. If you find someone willing to do it, there will be an HP.

The other approach is to tell the front line CSR that you are considering closing out one card. They mostly likely will transfer you to card specialist/retention specialist who can offer some retention incentive and can at times transfer credit line if you decide to close. I have it done with Chase, Amex but not sure if Citi is the same with allocating credit line upon closing card.

They arent the same or even close. Combining limits with Citi can be very difficult. Many cases here and elsewhere where people have been turned down. The HP is a given if you're lucky to get to the right person. I did read that people were having more success via Twitter so that might be an option.
