I assume that you mean it has better earnings because of gas? I'll take my combo of Sallie Mae and Prestige. With SM, 5% cash back with no AF > 3x TYP with the Premier and its $95 AF. Or am I missing something?
It depends on what your goals and spending patterns are like.
1. I personally value 3x TYP > 5% cash back. If you redeem for international premium cabin flights, its worth way more than 5%.
2. SM has a $250 limit per month for gas/groceries. I'll spend more than that in a week, muchless a month. If you have high spend in these categories, you'll blow through the cap quite easily.
I guess that's true.. I have traveled internationally in business the past two years on points, but the partners for TYPs don't ever seem to work for me. Maybe more valuable to others, but for this I prefer my UR combo.
I don't get close to spending $250/month in gas, so guess that is out for me as well. I was socked that 5% on SM works for Sam's gas thought... Just figured it wouldn't (and in my area, Sams and/or Costco gas is much cheaper).
Yes TY points are only good if you can actually redeem them.

Prior to getting my Ritz card I felt the same. However, after endless "this card is soooo heavy....." it became a true annoyance. Thus I recently closed my Ritz card.
The Prestige looks quite nice and I like the flat numbers because as much as mine slides in/out the numbers are as clear as can be, can't say the same for my other plastic.

Maybe I just need to try harder! Seems like everything (at least where I am) is either so limited and/or rediculous fuel surcharges. But with my TYPs piling up, I'll have to start looking for something. Otherwise, I guess it is AA redemption for me.
Not really that much interested in Citi Prestige, tbh...the $450 AF is too high to justify having the card in mho, even with the $250 airline credit factored in For travel purposes, I am happy with my AF-free Cap1 and BoA TR cards.

Good for you. Good riddance.
Yes, I like that the numbers are completely flat as well, while also looking pretty nice. The numbers look almost as nice as on Chase United Explorer while not being raised. Makes sure it doesn't leave indentations on my ultra-nice leather wallet. Citi Prestige and Citi Double Cash are the only cards I carry anymore.

FYI, Chase will send you a plastic version of the Ritz card if you request it. Prestige is a card I want to get. Waiting until I will be traveling more so I can use the AC and 4th night free benifits.

VA availability in J has really dried up over the past year or so, from what I can tell. I wouldn't count on it having the same availability as in the past.
That is the one major downside to TYP, is that virtually all of their partners have high YQ. You need to be much more careful who you transfer to, and what routes you take with TYP. For example if you try to use SQ from US-AUS, you'll end up flying through SIN and be hit with massive YQ. However if you use SQ from say SFO-HKG, the YQ is fairly minimal. Then you can arrange another flight from HKG-AUS using a different carrier (UA is particularly good for this given they're only 30k each way in J). I know that some people won't want to fly through Asia to get to Aus, but it's an example to illustrate the differences.
While TYP aren't as valuable as UR imo, they are still quite useful. They just need much more careful planning and a more advanced knowledge of airlines, alliances, routing and routing rules.

Agreed, but I was talking more about the premier having better bonus categories than the prestige. where I can get 3x for gas and travel vs the prestige that gives the 3x for airfare, travel agency and hotels. The former I tend to spend a lot more on. I wasn't comparing it to cards beyond that.
Prestige isn't 3X gas ? It's advertised on their site that it includes GAS........
i justngot got approved for this yesterday , I sure hope it includes gas.
