Re: Citi Retention Acception Direct Calls

What would you say when calling this department? Not clear if you should call them unless you are planning to cancel.

I'm not sure what this post is for, exactly, either.

Is it just a number to call to find out offers you would normally have on your card? I can usually find those out via chat.

If it's a special "retention offer" that you can only get if you say you will cancel your card, it wouldn't help to call as I plan to keep both of my cards.

If you have Amex plat or Prestige it's alway good to call to see if you can get a retention offer by cancelling your card.  They could only call your bluff and you just don't cancel it, nothing lost.  Amex gave me 20k MR retention playing Prestige against Plat, even though I had no intention of cancelling.

You will never know if you don't ask, lol!

That may be true, but I don't think I will call and pretend I'm canceling a card when I'm really not. Thanks in any event, though.

Business is business, good luck!

I'll be doing the same with Prestige in 4/17 since they 86'd benefits hopeful for 20k TYP, making it a free year.

Re: Citi Retention Acception Direct Calls

Retention depts are for those people that want to cancel, considering cancelling, contemplating cancelling. Whatever the case may be. Given the recent news of upcoming changes, that may apply to alot of people. OP was just sharing information with those people. If it does not pertain to you, then ignore it. Score had switched all of his spending and recurring charges to a different card because he was considering closing or pc'ing his Prestige and Premier. It's an individual choice. And like I said, if the thread does not pertain to you then ignore it. Keep it pushin! Smiley Happy

Understandable - just a few of us needed to ask why this was posted since there wasn't clear information why, only a phone number posted, so we asked for more information.

I also don't think it's a good idea to say you're canceling something if you're not, but that's just something I would not do. Everyone is different and glad it worked out for OP! Smiley Happy

Right.   Having a direct retention number makes things simple as well.   Issuers differ in their approaches (and from time to time).  In some cases, CSRs won't transfer you unless you explicitly say "I want to cancel" and in some cases, you may get a CSR who closes your card anyway.   Think of talking to retention as "What will you give me to keep me as a customer" which really is very similar to reconning, asking for an APR reduction, or asking to match an offer that came out after you applied.

And I totally agree with that humu. Retention depts are for those that are considering cancelling or like LTL said wants them to match another offer. Every thread won't pertain to everybody.
