Citi Store cards, can you ask for a CLI too often and get in trouble for it?

Asked for an increase on my Best Buy, got it approved from 2000 to $5000

Went to Macy's where I had a $6600 limit, decided to ask for $15,000 and they countered with $8100 which I accepted

Dang, I may of left money on the table at Best Buy I'm thinking

Anyways, I try my Macy's Amex next, $4000 limit and asked for a $6000 increase to $10k, got 7-10 day message

Go back to Best Buy, ask for another $5000 and got a weird message saying they need more information to process my request and to call them. Can I get in trouble for this, or can they close my account or anything or blacklist me in their system???

Re: Citi Store cards, can you ask for a CLI too often and get in trouble for it?

A little over a year ago I was approved for a Bloomingdales card online for $500. I requested CLIs almost immediately and after continuous denials it eventually asked me to call. After explaining $500 is useless at Bloomingdales the CSR put me on hold and after 10 minutes came back with a denial.

The next morning I went to use my Sears card, transaction denied. When I called in, the Citi CSR told me after a review of my accounts they decided to close a number of my Citi cards. They closed about 8 different cards regardless of any balance, age, business or personal accts. Probably around $100k total exposure.

Clearly I had reached the maximum amount Citi was willing to extend to me and by constantly requesting an increase on the Bloomingdales card was almost definitely the trigger. So my advice would be to give CLI requests some time. It’s a marathon not a race!

If you get message to call in main sign its a denial. Or they want to hp you. Macys seems more liberal than say Best Buy. Anytime ive called in with Bestbuy feels more like an interrogation than cli request.

How many times did you request Bloomingdales online after you got approved? 2? More then 5? More then 10?

Initial Bloomindales application was online and instant approved.  Over the following month I probably requested a CLI 4 times and after all were denied, I called in.
