Since it doesn't look like I will ever get an decent signup bonus from amex anytime in the near future, i may try to diversify with citi instead. I know Citi TYP are still probably 4th behind SPG,UR, and MR, but are they closing the gap ?
On a side note would closing my BCE increase chances of an potential PRG or SPG offer down the road? I don't think i would ever use my BCE , once i get the SM.
If the BCE is your only Amex card ( I mean Amex not the Fidelity amex or Bank of America Amex) I would keep it imo the benefits like extended warranty is superior with Amex then MC, Visa or Discover so if you need to buy a big purchase i would use an Amex card for that perk alone since I view Amex as superior for those perks.
Also I pretty much don't care about the Citi TYP but the premier card is decent since you get that Travel Credit per year so it isn't a terrible card even with the points being meh
Does the Premier have a travel credit? Isn't that the Prestige?
If so, I would look at the Prestige, if you can use the travel credit (which is more flexible than many). The difference in AF is small after taking that credit, and you get benefits like the 1.6c per point on AA (and companion ticket if you get it now!)
Ah yes i meant the Prestige lol
I think the Prestige is a decent card since you do get the Travel credit which is $300 i think and the AF is $400
I was going to start off slow with citi premier, and see how i like the TYP program for travel. Whats interesting about typ partners is singapore air I could potentially use both UR and TYP to transfer to singapore air.
Does the regular Citi TY preferred give the same options? If so I would use that since it has no AF. I have it and it is ok for being Free.

Hi the Prestige AF is $450. right now (Before Oct 16th??) the airline credit is $200 after that date the "new" version gives you a $250 credit, this is aside from the $100 global entry credit......
Eh idk never bothered to see the new prices since i don't want to pay $450 in AF's Already paying $200 between the CSP and Marriott card I have

nope its like freedom you can accrue poitns i think but not transfer to partners. Premeir and prestige are the cards for every day people that can transfer to partners.
Why would you just not apply for the PRG. Why do you have to wait for an offer? I have the Citi TYP and it is absolutely my least favorite card. They are stingy with their CLs and the points seem to be great if you are 23 and fresh out of college. With AMEX you can actually redeem your points for useful things. A TomTom from redeeming Citi points isn't my idea of useful.

Well prestige and premeir are different than regular TYP card. They can transfer points to airline partners like singapore etihad and Cathay , that is where the value comes in. As far as applying for PRG , if i apply thru my amex account now i don't even get an signup bonus. If i do go thru incognito mode i get 25 k signup bonus, but i want the 50k bonus that other people have been getting. Amex signup bonus are once an life time , so i want to make sure i get the best possible offer.
I have the Citi TYP with a 50,000 point sign up bonus that gives you 20k points in the first year (granted you meet spend requirements) and an additional 30k points in the second year (granted again that you meet the spend requirements). There is a $125 AF that is waived for the first year. I was given a $5700 initial CL back when I had a 707 FICO.
The advantage of this card is that it is a true Visa Signature so you have access to a flexible spending line. You also get a Citi concierge service that is superior to Visa Signature's concierge. The points are great if you redeem for travel since it gives you a 20% bonus on travel booked through Citi's TY Reward program. I got a roundtrip non-stop flight from Boston to Seattle for < 25,000 points. Of course you also get superior protection when traveling and making purchases through their various insurance programs.
Nonetheless I will likely not cancel after the first year because the 30k point bonus is enough to justify the $125 AF. I will call and pretend to cancel to get an additional 10-15k point bonus from their customer retention department.

Have you ever trasnferred TYP to one of their partners namely Cathay or Singapore ? That is what i am thinking of doing transferring to one of those partners . I don't think i will apply until end of the year. Just trying to look at my options, since amex seems to be out of the picture right now. Really could have used both prg and spg for majority of spending but oh well, amex doesn't want me as a customer, thats fine there are other options out there.
The Prestige AF is $350 if you app in a branch. If you subtract the $250 in airline credits then it's only $100. Really not too bad.

yeah but seeing that 400 af just makes me cringe when i am not the biggest traveler in the world. I can start off slow with premeir and see how i like the TYP program. I can do some more research i am not going to apply dec at earliest . What to do about amex is another pressing issue that i want to figure out before end of the year.

I assume this is the Premier (TYP usually refers to the Preferred). So would you keep it after the bonus? If you don' transfer points, don't think the AF is justified.
