@mongstradamus wrote:I was just curious about overall thoughts of the citi premeir card. Since it doesn't look like I will ever get an decent signup bonus from amex anytime in the near future, i may try to diversify with citi instead. I know Citi TYP are still probably 4th behind SPG,UR, and MR, but are they closing the gap ?
On a side note would closing my BCE increase chances of an potential PRG or SPG offer down the road? I don't think i would ever use my BCE , once i get the SM.
If the BCE is your only Amex card ( I mean Amex not the Fidelity amex or Bank of America Amex) I would keep it imo the benefits like extended warranty is superior with Amex then MC, Visa or Discover so if you need to buy a big purchase i would use an Amex card for that perk alone since I view Amex as superior for those perks.
Also I pretty much don't care about the Citi TYP but the premier card is decent since you get that Travel Credit per year so it isn't a terrible card even with the points being meh
Well do have some interesting partners now with Cathay and Etihad being the two big ones that i wouldn't mind flying on. BCE is my only real amex card. If they would give me signup bonus for prg and spg they would be only cards i would be using. PRG would be gas and groceries and SPG everything else. I would may be still use CSP for dinig but thats it. They are losing out an fair amount of my spending because they don't look at me as a customer worth keeping.
IF you never get the PRG offer and don't get the SPG I would say just semi sock drawer the BCE and use it for purchases you want the extended warranties or other perks since I do think Amex extended warranty perk is better then the rest.
The thing is as long as i have an BCE i don't think i will ever get any offers for either PRG or SPG, they only want new customers. I still am an AU on costco amex so i still have access to warranty program that way?
I only have the BCP and normally only get tons of offers for Business cards from Amex. But about a month ago I did get a nice offer for SPG but it was bad timing for me. Should this offer get back to me in early 2015 I will jump on it. So you might get offers keeping the BCE as well.
hmmm that is interesting maybe i should wait and stop being so impatient and just keep my BCE. I just got put off by amex because other people geting offers with lower fico scores and thinner files.
If you don't have an SPG account, I would recommend signing up. FT always has reports of people who receive targeted offers for the Amex SPG card. I think historically, the Amex higher bonus public offer shows up once a year, around the second half of the year, but SPG rewards account holders seem to get through-out the year, mostly for the 30K offer. I guess it depends on how long you're willing to wait for the rare 35K offer ( I personally haven't heard about it this past year and a half) but it doesn't hurt to have an account ready and for the possibllity of more offers.
IF YOU SIGN UP FOR THE SPG PLEASE PM ME - WE WILL BOTH GET A 5K POINTS BONUS!

Believe me I know how you feel. I think the nice SPG offer came from SPG and not from Amex because I normally do not get any personal card offers only business offers from Amex. May your wishes come true
I noticed i do have 25k offer from spg via amex. Its the same offer i see on spg site. I am more interested in PRG to be honest because of the bonus spending with gas and groceries.
In about a year SPG's bonus will go to 30k, but if you PM me now you can get 25k plus 5k from me referring you. That will give you the 30k sign-up bonus without having to wait.
It is an interesting theory that you are more likely to get a nice sign up bonus if you are a former Amex member. I suspect it is true, but I don't have any data to back it up. The only data point I have is the 50k PRG offer that was mailed to the former owner of my house. I assume she hasn't been a member in over 5 years (or they would have updated her info). But this was the first Amex offer I have received for her.
I only get Green card letters from Amex. I think my problem is I just don't spend that much with Amex. If I was traveling for business all of the time, I am sure Amex would be more eager for my business. I might need to cancel my current card to get the good sign up bonus. But with my current spend, I doubt I would get anything nice if I cancelled.

@jamesdwi wrote:is it only the signing bonus keeping you from getting the PRG? Your scores look good enough for it, I have seen many approvals with 650 EX scores and yours is 100 pts higher.
Signing bonuses are cool, but if the card suits your needs you may want to take the plunge and AP for it. The AF is waived, if that isn't good enough reason, how will you justify keeping it next year when their isn't a signing bonus and the $175 AF hits.
yes the signup bonus is holding me back since its once in an life time.
You also need to take into account the (negative) opportunity cost of waiting. If the card is good to use (rather than just bonuses) getting it now allows you get those benefits, rather than doing without for who knows how long. Of course, if the only point is the bonus and you don't intend to use it much, waiting makes more sense.

Well at this moment in time i am not going to be using it for an trip anytime soon, i just got back from trip last week. I will just use my SM for 5% on gas and groceris instead and see what happens. I am in no rush.

See the news in http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Cards/Change-in-Amex-PRG/td-p/3490943 ? Does that impact your wish for the PRG?

Not really 50 k is 50k for signup bonus. I would not keep it for more than first year. I would probably switch to EDP when AF approaches for PRG. I don't travel enough to make use of PRG imo for its other features.
@Berk wrote:Why would you just not apply for the PRG. Why do you have to wait for an offer? I have the Citi TYP and it is absolutely my least favorite card. They are stingy with their CLs and the points seem to be great if you are 23 and fresh out of college. With AMEX you can actually redeem your points for useful things. A TomTom from redeeming Citi points isn't my idea of useful.
Citi offers my highest CL at $6,000 so far
