Citi allows only 1 card in 6 months??

Really confused by this...

So I applied for the ThankYou Premier and AAdvantage on 8/4. The TY Premier was instantly approved but AAdvantage was denied with a letter says "multiple applications". I called in and the rep told me to wait for "a while" before applying againFollowing someone's advice here to wait at least 8 days, I tried the AA again today (8/24) but was delined. I called app status immediately. The rep told me the reason was "multiple applications" and also told me that I can only applied for 1 Citicard in 6 month.

Is this true? Kinda of feel like been fooled by Citi reps Smiley Sad

I believe you might of been lied to or a misinformed CSR.. I am not with Citi, but can swear there are people with multiple citi accounts within a 6 month period

Yes the CSR was incorrect.  There is no need to wait 6 months between applications.    I'm not sure though about any wait period between applying for a card that you were previously denied for.

How is it that the rep fooled you? They said wait awhile, and I'm sorry, but 2-3 weeks of waiting isn't enough....your report has not changed enough in that span of time in most cases to warrant an approval if it was previously declined. I don't know where the "8 days" thing comes from, but to me, that's not true.

Most issuers don't let you get multiple cards in a short span of time. Yes there are exceptions depending on your profile, but generally they want to see history before granting another card. I would give it 3-6 months (6 being preferable) and try again. Just let this one sit, as begging for recon is only going to make you appear desperate since you just got the other card. Just my opinion.

You don't have to wait 6 months AFAIK policy-wise, but it would still be smart to do so.

The 8 day thing is true and if the CSR told him that you have to wait 6 months between applications then they lied.  I wish you would stop that reconning=begging.  It isn't and there are valid reasons to recon a denial.

I'm not against recon. I've done it myself and there are absolutely valid reasons. But if one just got a card with a lender a couple weeks ago, trying for another in some cases is pushing it.

I was approved for a Prestige and Premier 1 day apart. Then got the Hilton card 1 month later.

I got my AAdvantage in February, then my Prestige in April. Both were instant approvals. Scores were ~650 with some derogs, but I have a mega-thick file (Equifax report is over 150 pages).
