I have four (simplicity, aadvantage, premier and prestige). I think i have read that max is 5 but someone can correct me if im wrong.
Well I have 5 with them now plus a Shell card (although they sent me a letter saying they're closing the Shell in Feb. if I don't use it). I was thinking of adding one more...

oh, so i guess you can have 5...cool, i am aiming for the the Hilton reserve later this year then...lol. I think there store cards are not included in the max amount of cards you can have with citi. Have you tried calling them and asking? I remember reading somewhere on these boards that 5 was max though.
Not sure if it is an actual limit on the number of accounts you can have or if it is more like Chase in that they limit the total overall credit that they will extend to you.
They checked EQ for me with that card. Do you have any interest in the Amex Surpass?
If denied you could offer to close out one of the Hilton cards. Not sure why there's a need for three of them.
There's not a "need' for most, if not all, of the cards I have.
I used the "2-browser trick" for the regular Citi HHH cards (no AF) and they each got approved simultaneously for $15k and I've only seen one inquiry. I'll take it! The Reserve I applied for 3 months later (this was all back in 2012). With all 3 I met the minimum spend and got a boatload of points. I would gladly close one of them to open another if they prefer. In the meantime, it's really helping my utilization.
I think Citi having a number of card limits is an urban myth. I've seen people with more than 10, but I've heard CSRs say "no more than 5" one day and the number changes to 7 the following day from another CSR. Similar to Chase, I think it's more about overall exposure where one hits a limit.
