Re: Citi phone call about app?Anyone else have this happen

Citi didn't call, but I can say this about calling Citi;

After getting an invite with a code about the "WONDERFUL" 0% for 21 months. We decided it was a decent offer and on the site entered the code, other info, APPROVED INSTANT!  For!!!!........ 1600......   Immediately thinking (um.... seems to be a zero missing there......) called them up.  Asked them about the CL and if there was any chance of having it increased as their offer wasn't worth much considering most cards held by the person had 5 figure CL's.  Yeah, they could do another hard pull and run it by an analyst and we could wait on them for another week or so. No, not worth it, will look elsewhere.  Will use the current CL for the 21 months then PIF, thanks anyway. Click.

That is why I don't recommend Citi. They are too "iffy" about who they'll give what to.  They'd been decent in the past but seems now you risk a roll of the dice on what you get for a CL even with a perfect report and long history (even if they've had you for a customer before).

Seriously. I mean seriously; why offer a 21 month 0% promotion with an invite code to a previous customer you gave 5 figure CL's to if you're not intending to give them a CL they might actually be able to use. It makes no sense.

Then remembering they also control CitiFinancial...(until they got smart and renamed that division)  it's easy to see the reasoning behind how they're doing business now.  They should change their name to CitiOne, it would fit perfectly. (like Capital One, CreditOne......... right down the same path). Smiley Wink  Wait, they did rename CitiFinancial..... to OneMAIN!   Guess I had that one pegged fairly well. Smiley Very Happy

And before anyone jumps on my case in spiked golf shoes. YES they have given high CL's to people with less than stellar scores. If someone doesn't mind spinning the wheel for their CL and the HP for it, that's up to them. For others that would like to know who they're dealing with when it comes to Citi. Here's your answer, by all means, spin away.

I applied for a Citibank card last week, didn't get an instant decision. I got the 7-10 days message. Right after I appd I called in due to fraud alert. I thought I would get an instant decision but didn't. She asked me some questions and said I'll be hearing in 7-10 days. Normally when I call in and answer some questions they tell me right away whether I got it or not. I've called the app status line everyday still pending. Received a call from Citi this morning I missed the call so I called back. She wanted to verify some info including phone no. she said she has to call me at that number. That's all she asked for. We hung up and she called me to verify no. that was it, again she said I'll be hearing in 7-10 days if I don't hear from them within a week I'm to call them. WTH? Is all this a good thing or bad? Has anyone else gone thru this process? I find it weird and they drag out the whole process.

Similar to how I got my Forward card. I called Citi, in which they verified who I am, and told me that a decision will be reached with 7-10 days. I called in next day to check the status and was approved for $1K.

I'm definitely more cautious with CITI now.

Always heard Chase was more of a PITA to work with.

You could sense much more humanity from Chase recon than Citi's.

Re: Citi phone call about app?Anyone else have this happen

I have had nothing but good experiences with Citi. My first relationship with Citi was a CC and I had to have quite a bit of info verified with them. I don't think it's them being difficult...I think it's just the nature of credit these days. There are more rules and regulations than there used to be. I received the 7-10 day response and I had to call in a couple of times to ensure that my app was moving along. Since opening my first CC with Citi, I have since opened a bank account and my mortgage is with them. Based on my wonderful experiences I have since dumped BOA due to their shady behavior.

The bottom line of my post is you have to base your perception of a company like Citi based on your own experiences rather than those of others who have been scorned.

Re: Citi phone call about app?Anyone else have this happen

Finally the dreaded email came today, I was denined for the following:

1. The credit privileges on your existing account(s) are currently restricted. DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS??

2. Too many recent credit inquiries are recorded on your credit bureau report. I HAD 3 AT TIME OF APPLYING

Whatever, I won't app with them again after hearing all the negatives about Citi. As for the inquiry, it'll get B* off anyway so no harm done. What gets me is that they called and asked for verification and made it sound like I was approved. Aholes.

I'm really sorry to hear the dreaded news, but to be completely honest, I'm not surprised one bit by Citi's behavior.
