Citi premier card on the chopping block

The AF has hit on this card and I think I need to close it to start the two year clock. (I closed the prestige recently). Its a 8.2k credit line so I am wondering if I should close this card outright or PC it to something else? Dividend worth it? I already have a double cash card.

Re: Citi premier card on the chopping block

Dividend is good if you want to deal with quarterly categories.  My Freedom is in the SD right now because of quarterly categories, so you win some and lose some going that route.

Otherwise, Citi doesn't give a whole lot of options.  Their specific cobranded cards like AAdvantage and Costco are supposedly pretty good if you can make use of those rewards.  They have a bit of a gap with general purpose cards, though, IMHO.  I have two Citi cards, DC and Premium, and don't really have a desire for any others.

I have an AA card. I just looked at the costco card. I don't drive that often so fuel purchases are not a big issue for me and I have the CSR for things like travel and restaurants etc, so the only option would be Dividend or total account closure. If I could PC the citi reserve to a dividend then maybe I would just close the premier since the reserve has a 10k credit line and would be a better line to hold on to.

Re: Citi premier card on the chopping block

The closure spree continues!  FWIW, I'm planning to PC my Diamond Preferred to Dividend; it'll nicely complement my Freedom and Discover it for rotating categories.

No use for a 2% Double Cash?

I PC'd my prestige into a double cash already. It just sits in the SD, but its good to have for the future.

Oh, I knew that I just wanted to see if he knew that.  Smiley Embarassed

Hmmm, if the Dividend doesn't make sense for you maybe just move the CL over to Double Cash?

If you call in and threaten to cancel, Citi may provide a generous offer to you, which may prompt you to keep the card open.

I've threatened to cancel three cards in the last two months, and here were the results:

ThankYou Premier (your card) = 0% interest on transfers and purchases for 12 months.

AT&T (no AF) = an additional 2 TYP's per dollar on all purchases, for six months so the structure goes to 3x/4x on all purchaes, plus 25% when redeemed for travel through them.

AAdvantage Platinum = (2) one day Admirals Club passes with $350 in spend over the next 2 months.

I could imagine if you turn one offer down, they'll offer you another.

Re: Citi premier card on the chopping block

I also need to decide what i want to do with my premeir,it hasn't been used in ages due to my applying for the CSR late last year. I also have a double cash card already when I pc'ed my Citi AA card. I may just throw the CL on to my double cash. I also need to figure out which partner I want to dump the little TYP I have left in my account

Will citi let me move a credit line over to another card like that? For some reason I thought they did not allow that.
