Citi targeted upgrade question

I received an email from citi today regarding my diamond preferred card. It was an upgrade offer to the citi rewards plus card. I looked at the offer and noticed it said I'd have a different account number. If I take this upgrade will it show as a new account , or continue to report as the initial account ? Thank you for your responses in advance.

@Anonymous, I cannot say for sure, but I would call a rep and make triple sure! ..JMHO

Re: Citi targeted upgrade question

@M_Smart007 Thank you very much for the response. Based on my research I wouldn't think it would show as a new account. However , I'm not wanting to chance anything as you mentioned. Hopefully someone here has done it and got a new account number. That would save me so much time waiting on a representative.

Re: Citi targeted upgrade question

@Anonymous  ..

Some time back when I called in to product change a Citi Diamond Preferred to a Citi Double cash,

I asked all the questions first! .. They kept the same account number and age of the old card.

With Citi they often change things, is why I say call to be 100% sure.

I also PC'd a Simplicity to a 2nd DC (did the impossible)

I have only (2) Citi accounts, but on EQ it shows (3) open Citi accountsSmiley Tongue

plus the closed Simplicity account ... so (4) accounts reporting and only 2 open.

So I get $11,000 extra Util. padding on EQ that I do not get on EX or TUSmiley Very Happy

I always lean towards the caution side, when doing PC's. ...Again just my $0.02 worth.

Re: Citi targeted upgrade question

@M_Smart007 Thank you for the response and nice going on the utilization padding. Waited an hour to finally talk to someone. Got a super nice lady rep. Asked the questions , and was told it was a conversion. Therefore , the account will be a continuation of my diamond preferred account. As it won't show as a new account and all terms stayed the same I went ahead and did the conversion.

Re: Citi targeted upgrade question

I've PCed AA Platinum to Costco, and Prestige to DC. There are 3 major CRAs, so I should have 6 instances of a card reporting for my 2 accounts.

I have 7. Costco showed as a new account on EQ.

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

Re: Citi targeted upgrade question

I've received the offer for months via email and USPS. I called twice to CS. Two different answers on reporting opening date and if a HP. I decided not to go for it. I was actually going to check the forums today to see what I could find because I received an e-mail yesterday. Some of the snail mail last year gave the impression that my card was going away and that I had to change.

Re: Citi targeted upgrade question

No HP for me either time, and my extra EQ account is fairly uncommon. If I wanted to PC a Citi card (and I might PC DC if they launch something new and more useful) I would only wait to PC if I had very precise 5/24 type plans (which I currently don't).

Re: Citi targeted upgrade question

@Anonymous @There was no credit check at all for me on this offer. Not even a soft pull. It was merely a conversion to a card that had some sort of rewards. Kept the remaining 0% promotional apr and all terms the original card had. I was told there would be a new account number due to it being a different card family. She assured me the open date and account history would remain the same.
