So back in my dreaded college years, I had 2 Citi cards that were tarnished... charged off, and even got to the point of judgements (I know all bad).
Both of them were PIF in 2006, and have since been completely removed from my credit report. (The judgements too, I asked they be removed, and they were, yep, that simple).
Fast forward to today... My EQ FICO is 686, I have come a long way from where I was, thats for sure... hoping to be in the 700 club sooner than later. I am authorized on my brothers Citi with a $4000 CL (I pay the bill on it, and just use it for periodic purchases) and my utilization across the boards is <20%. If I applied for Citi, (I want my own!) would they hold it against me the h#ll I went through years ago??? I dont want to take the chance on a hard hit if it will probably be useless. Any info you may have would be great! Thanks guys!
I had a Citi credit card charged off back in college, but I quickly paid it off as soon as I had a chance. I've heard of some people being blacklisted by Citi for chargeoffs, but I think in their case, they never paid them back.
Fast forward 7 years... To test this theory I applied for a Citi AAdvantage card and was approved for $7500.
The answer to your question is... you will never know until you try. Good luck!
Thanks so much!!!!
I've heard of people being blacklisted too, and I think thats why I'm a little nervous for the HP... I'll have to think about it some. I love their customer service and the Dividend rewards, thats why I'm so inclined to go back.
Citi gave me my first TWO credit cards back in college. I wasn't responsible and I charged them off. I settled with them and they remained on my credit report. Years later, they're off of my report and Citi gave me another chance with their Diamond Preferred card and a $7500 limit. I am grateful and have always valued their customer service.
I honestly haven't read, or remember, any blacklisting threads regarding Citi. Not to say there aren't any out there, I just don't remember of any.
Good luck, and keep us updated!
UPDATE: I applied, and was denied due to an account listed as a CO from 6 years ago. I dont know why I never noticed this one before, but I will put it into dispute as soon as I can pull the report. They pulled EX for me. I was a little sad, and opted to do the Chase Freedom to see what they'd say. Instant online approval. I called, and I have a $7500 CL! I'm excited to say the least... I'll now be gardening what I have for a bit, and getting rid of my Cap One and Orchard cards after Chase reports (had both for a year and doesn't look too good for a CLI any time soon- 750 and 300 respectively).
Thanks for your help! I'll deal with Citi again in a couple of years. I love there service, but sad they denied me.
Have a great day!
