Classic, Gold, Platinum. Is there a difference anymore?

Many bank are removing the title Platinum from their credit cards. Chase, Citi, BoA, Nat City, ect... Does Classic, Gold, Platinum mean anything anymore? Used to be that Visa, Mastercard had extra benefits only for gold or platinum for preferred card members and higher CLs. Now I see paltinum cards with $100 CL and classic cards with $100,k CL.

Is there an advantage or are all the cards offering the same protections from Visa/Mastercard? I know that Platinum doesn't mean $10k credit lines anymore that's for sure.

The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

For me, they is no difference, as the benefits are more or less the same.

Now the ccc's see it differently, as it distinguishes between tiers of cards, based on cl's or scores, or some other criteria, imo.

My one CU does Classic, Gold, Plat...

Let's see: FP has a Plat (and a Gold) ... are they truly a Plat card of old - no way!

There use to be a very BIG difference, Plat was Plat them and meant you had a high rating with good card benefits - nowadays with CC competition less so.

I truly think the only one that's left as a true status is the Centurion - those requirements were very tight to start (less so now).  But the perks are what gives it status.
