Hi all! Planning on closing the Synchrony Marvel Mastercard I was approved for about 3 weeks ago (all Marvel cards are being closed by 5/27 with no plan to replace them with a generic Synchrony card).
Since the account is so new and I am yet to make a charge, is it possible Synchrony would delete the account from my credit reports? Just wondering if anyone else has had any success doing so. If not, I'll probably just make a purchase to get my $25 bonus before closing it.
Thanks all.
Since it was a legitimate application (i.e. not fraud, no SYNCB error), more than likely not. Keep in mind that a closed account is still factored into your AAoA for up to ~10 years (give or take).
It's unfortunate that given the circumstances, you (or anyone else) will not be able to continue having the card. Since it's still about a month away before all Marvel accounts get to be officially closed, get your bonus.
ETA - @Loquat beat me to it.

Unfortunately no. I feel your pain I have been burned before in this scenario.

Sorry to bring you bad news but that account is going to stick. Once you applied and were approved the account reports and will continue to do so until enough time has elapsed (years) and it'll eventually fall off.
It shouldn't have anymore impact being closed later as it does now unless you're losing enough credit that will affect your utilization.
Thanks, I was just wondering if anyone had any success doing and whether it was worth grabbing that "huge" bonus offer. I feel Sync really dropped the ball on this one. For me it seemed the perfect fit - the 3% entertainment category and my prior experience growing Synchrony limits - had me thinking this would be a great keeper for the long term.

Well, it's a little bit of a zero-sum game! If too many people find the card great, it may not be so profitable for the issuer....

I'm going to say no you can't. If it was put on there legally because you applied for it why would they take it off?
No, the account is a factual and correct account that you applied for. It's unfortunate it is being force closed but the credit report still must reflect accurate information and your application/account is valid.

As this was a co-branded card Disney* would have had major input in the decision to discontinue the card, I kind of doubt that Synchrony drove the decision to discontinue it as it's one of their best cards. It also would not surprise me if Disney's ongoing business relationship with Chase issuing and underwriting the Disney CC was a consideration as well.
* Remember that Marvel was purchased by and is run as a division of Disney.

Well, there shouldn't be false information on the credit report, but it certainly doesn't have to complete. Think of PFD, where a accurately reported late gets removed, or even SP CLI or SP new cards (e.g. Amex) where credit seeking is taking place but doesn't get reflected on the CR for other lenders to see. So in theory the new account could certainly be removed, there is just no reason for the lender to want to.
