What is the best practice in doing this?
I have three cards:
1. Delta: $15000
2. Mariott: $15000
3. Hilton: $15000
I'm planning on closing my Hilton. How much can I transfer out of it before doing so?
Is there a minimum amount I should leave? (I am assuming I cannot empty it to $0)
All my cards have not moved/changed limits for more than a year. Thanks!

500

Since you're allowed 1 xfr per 30 days, choose the card you'd like to allocate the CL. Depending on which Hilton product it is, the system will prompt you with the lowest amount that can remain on the account. The lowest is typically $500 for the majority of some products.
The lowest on Delta is 1000

When I closed my Hilton Surpass card in June, I had to leave $1000 when reallocating my credit limit online.

Good to know I am only allowed once. I was planning on splitting them. I might just transfer the limit on one card and transfer from that card to the other.

Yes, that is the most straightforward way to do it. Transfer $14k to one of the other cards, then 30 days later you can shift some over to the the third card.
Be aware that the online credit limit reallocation screen may tell you that you only have to leave $500, but if you try to transfer $14,500 you will probably get a vague error message telling you that you will receive a letter telling you why your transfer didn't go through. Just try it again with $14,000, and it should go through.
I have always had to leave $1000.00 on the card I closed. With the exception of Charge Cards![]()
Never got by with $500.00 ... tried multiple times on different cards. (Delta and non-Delta CC's)

Sometimes 500 is the minimum you have to leave, sometimes it's 1000. When you're actually doing it online, they will tell you how much you have to leave.
