Hey everyone,
I paid off and plan to cancel my Best Buy mastercard. it has a $500 limit with an annual fee that is not worth paying coming up in November. As a cobranded citi card it is not eligble for a product change, therefore a HP would be a waste for a higher limit. Anyone know how long after closing my current card could I retry for the no annual fee store only version?
It would make 1 year in November since I got the card and I have not signed up with any other creditor that pulled equifax since then.

I closed mine in May of this year, re-app'd last month and was instantly approved for the no AF store card with 2k limit.
Thanks! Very helpful, I'll wait a few months as you did and hope for similar results.

taking an HP and a new TL for the chance of a store card, to end up with a closed account, and a possible chance of getting AF with another MC version, there are other electronic retailers that are better, window shop at Best Buy, buy at Amazon ( GE/Syncrony backed card very friendly with CLI's and have good no interest deals), hhgreg (GE backed, good CLi's avereage no interest deals), NewEgg, Tiger Direct both are commentity, decent no interest deals, and no AF.

Better? I rather have my electronics picked up then shipped to me considering UPS probably doesn't give a crap and it bounces in the truck. Had to go through 3 Tablets from newegg all had issues which eventually gave up on and returned it for refund. Bought a TV on Amazon and the Frame is a bit off since the thing that holds it was chipped but didn't feel like putting it back into the box so i kept it lol. I love amazon but I would never buy electronics online imo
I've been having to much grief with this card... I actually enjoy (and frequently do) shopping at Best Buy, and from time to time the rewards on this card make the AF seem worth it. But I've had this card since 2009 and it has been stuck at a $400 limit since day one. I wasn't able to put any of my major electronics purchases on it and when I finally bit the bullet on the HP for a CLI last month they denied me and trying to get someone on the phone to discuss their decision was a NIGHTMARE. Someone finally gave me a physical adress to write in to (which I probably will do once I pay off my new X-Box One), but give me a break .
If I wanted to apply for the store only card without the AF, would I have to close the Mastercard version first? I really, really want a higer credit line on this card so that when I buy a new TV at the end of the year or anything else I might want that I can take advantage of things like 10% back in Rewards (which I use and value), but being as that the BBY MC is from 2009, it's one of my older accounts.
I've had my Best Buy MC since Feb of last year. It had a $300 limit with annual fee when it was Cap 1 and I was able to get EO to raise it to $1500.
Since it converted to Citi last year I have charged over $13000. I bought around 10 Mac Book Airs for year end bonuses for my employees in our Shanghai and Vietnam offices.
always pay in full several times a month. I've applied for an increase 3 times and they always deny for odd reasons. I just tried again last week and denied again even with a TU of 748.
ive tried to call and speak to someone but can't get anyone with the authority to do anything. I only want this card for the 5% rewards which are often 10% like now for 3 months but I'm fed up with the liimit. I'm gonna try call tomorrow and see if I can get a supervisor and if not I'll close it.

Thank you guys for the input and feedback. James I appreciate the options mentioned but Best Buy is by far my preferred choice retailer.
I closed my Best Buy Mastercard with fee today and later tonight applied for the Best Buy card in store. Associate had to call in but I was approved for 2 grand on the no annual fee card! Very glad I didn't waste a HP on getting a CLI on the fee version.
So if you want a bigger limit and your AAoA won't tank it may be an option to weigh. Also if you close your gold with fee and don't get reapproved you can not reopen your old account ( I was ok with that possibility). Best of luck everyone!
It's definitely been a weird experience for me with CAP - CITI transition. I had a $500 Mastercard with a $59 fee. Doubled to $1000 by CAP1 CEO and then got the letter the fee is only $39. (had it waived both years I was with them anyway). Then CITI bought it and told me I would not have AF and a limit of $1000 so I kept it. Requested 2 CLIs declined for odd reason. Emailed CEO of Best Buy and CITI bank letting them know I want to get some stuff but it would have to be at HHGregg since GE gave me a huge store card and they haggle prices anyway. Got a call from CITI EO..they said they would look into giving me a CLI, got a call 4 days later, denied, they apologized, hope I would stay, lo and behold they moved me from $1k - $3k 3 days after I got a call saying NO so it was weird. I also got a call from executive office at best buy and they were nice, offered me $100 in RZ points to make a purchase with them and just for the hassle as they reviewed my history..ultimately bought the electronics at HHGregg as they offered to lower the TV to what the best buy was offering - 6% to match what I would get in RZ points and they did 0%. Bought a fridge and they offered to help out with the purchase and threw in part of the warranty on both TV and Fridge. In a way HHGregg reminds me of Circuit City. They will do almost anything to close a deal and not walk the customer. Also GE gave me $3k right off the bat and after 6 months went up to $5k automatically.
