Closing Chase

This has probably been mentioned on this forum before but apparently Chase has credit cards that will never be eligible for customer-initiated CLI.  I have had my Chase card for about 10 months with a measly CL of $400.  I requested a CLI yesterday and was told that I was not eligible for a CLI but that I should apply for another Chase card.  That doesn't make any sense to me.  Anyway, I paid off my account this morning and I'm closing it when it reflects zero.  I thought Chase was a company that would grow with me... boy was I WRONG!

Re: Closing Chase

Did you specifically ask the CSR or Senior Account Specialist if the card was eligible for increases, EVER????

Re: Closing Chase

I called the backdoor number listed on this forum and I was told that the card would never be eligible for customer initiated CLI.  Instead, the only increases would be ones from auto review.  I spent 10 months pushing about $1200 through that $400 card.  I always PIF and I even did a BT when I initially received the card.

I feel like I did a lot of work for nothing.  I was a little upset but I realize that extension of revolving credit is a privilege and not a right.  So all I can do is move on.

Re: Closing Chase

It has been rumored around here that there are certain Chase cards designated with a no-CLI status for a little while.

However, I believe it was disproved once when someone with such a card was able to get a CLI via the back door/recon number. Have you given that a shot?

Re: Closing Chase

Once I found out yesterday that I was denied for the CLI, I called the backdoor number and the account specialist told me that my card wasn't eligible.  She also recommended that I apply for another Chase card.

I called customer service this morning and the representative told me that they DO NOT have cards that are not eligible for a CLI but would transfer me to a Credit Specialist.  The credit specialist then told me that in fact my card was not eligible for "customer-initiated" CLI.  I would be eligible for the auto-generated CLI.  I asked her how long does that take and she said that it is auto.

I hope that answered your question FretlessMayhem

Re: Closing Chase

What is the harm of opening another account with Chase.  Have your scores changed much since you received this card??  If they have, then they may issue another card with a higher limit.

Re: Closing Chase

Why not keep it and look for auto-CLI down the road?  Do you think you could get a higher limit if you were to apply for a brand new Chase card today?

Re: Closing Chase

There is really no harm in applying for another Chase card.  It is just the fact that I don't want another credit card.  I have 4 right now and that is more than enough for me.  I have a ton of inquiries from my mortgage, utilities, and savings accounts.  Nonetheless, If I had known that I couldn't request a CLI from Chase, I would have applied with a different company.  In terms of my scores.  My FICO scores have drastically increased since I started working and paying off my debt incurred from graduate school.  I'm currently at EQ-706, EX-696, and TU-701 (these are ficos from this site except equifax which is from score watch).
