Re: Closing Target

Thank you guys for all of your inputs. In the begging, I only did it because of the 5% for the groceries, however I didn't know about the debit thing at the time but I don't know how I feel about giving them my bank information. Now that I have a sallie mae I do earn the 5% for target/Walmart. Up to 250 for the month is low though can't wait till I apply for the BCP (publix/Albertsons /fresh market) My wife is the one that likes shopping at Target (I don't blame her) some Walmarts, well most are dirty and only have one line opened, lol. Anyways I guess I'll just keep it opened as it won't affect/improve my scores if I close it. The main answers to my question was If it were to affect my approval approach when searching for card spree starting in December, but it looks like it's becoming cleared out thanks to you guys!

Re: Closing Target

My opinion, if a lender won't give you a decent cl because you have $500 target card than that is who should be dropped.

Re: Closing Target

My Target limit is also at $300.

It hasn't stopped me from getting higher limits.

If you want to close your store cards for other reasons, by all means.  But if you are just doing it because you read the myth that store cards stop you from getting higher limits, don't do it.

I have passed manual recon with Barclays before with a JCPenney $100 store card showing.

Re: Closing Target

Swampy99 - you nailed it. Going back many many years department store cards were always high Apr's and low CL. $500 was good at one time. Your explanation really says it all!

Need your advice guys. Target was opened in November, and as all of you know the card is terrible. I've done the whole calling in, updating my income info. A few months ago I went from a starting line of 300 to a whopping 500 bucks. This is the lowest CL I have in my reports. Question, when I get out of the garden will it affect me have a low CLI card If a manual report is pulled? Thanks

If you can use the card and get discounts in the store, keep it. Never know it might grow or not Smiley Happy

Re: Closing Target

If it bugs you, close it. Target just isn't a high limit card (mine has been $200 limit since 1998). I just maxed mine out so maybe they'll throw me $100 CLI.

Re: Closing Target

Since we are on this topic, requesting a CLI from target is it a Hard pull or Soft Pull?

Re: Closing Target

Re: Closing Target

Keep it open. My initial Target CL was $700 and I didn't hinder my ability to obtain major credit cards with great SLs.
